HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions were able to get on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, as Dillon Vroman worked a one out walk, then was joined on base by Mikey Brinton on the next plate appearance when he was hit by a pitch. Nolan Oliver then came up and provided a productive out when he grounded to short and moved Vroman and Brinton both to scoring position. Kit Wigington would follow and delivered a two-out single that plated both runs, as UCCS went to the bottom of the third with the first lead of the game.
- Regis wasted no time responding to the Mountain Lions, as a three-run home run from Garrett Rede erased the Mountain Lions lead with one swing of the bat. Ayden Harrison who had reached on an error, and Clay Conn who singled to center both scored on the Rede homer, and UCCS had relinquished their lead without recording an out. To make matters worse, Adam Paniagua went back-to-back with a homer of his own, and in a flash, it was a 4-2 Regis advantage. The Rangers would add a fifth run on a Peter Goldy sacrifice fly, as the Rangers captured the three-run advantage in the inning.
- The Mountain Lions learned their lesson as they intentionally walked Paniagua on his next at bat, but the decision would still burn UCCS as the free pass was followed by an Ethan Wood double to score Paniagua to make the lead four at 6-2.
- Dillion Vroman and Nolan Oliver combined in the seventh for the Mountain Lions as Vroman earned a leadoff single, then stole second before a wild pitch advanced him to third. Oliver would ground out two batters later, and UCCS earned a run back to cut the lead to 6-3.
- The Rangers shut the door over their final two trips to the batter's box, with the Rangers adding seven runs in the seventh in the eighth innings. UCCS didn't help themselves as the Ranger push was helped along by a balked in run in the seventh, as the Rangers blanked the Mountain Lions the rest of the way to sweep the weekend series and earn the 13-3 game four victory.
