COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball teams falls short of Adams State University 11-7 in game one of four as the Grizzlies visit the Mountain Lions.
INSIDE THE MATCH UP
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Grizzlies responded in a similar fashion leading off the inning with a homer making it 6-2. Fink would then hit a batter and surrender a double, two singles and a handful of walks to give up four more runs. This tied the game up and Nick Miszuk would be called on to pitch for Fink. He would ultimately get them out of the inning but they could get nothing going in the bottom half.
-
Adams State capitalized on a one out single by adding a double from Christian Altamirano putting runners in scoring position. A single would bring one in and then a double would score Altamirano. On the same play, Caleb Eiguren, who had just hit the RBI single, was thrown out trying to score at home sending things to the bottom half of the inning 8-6 ASU. Despite a few baserunners, the Mountain Lions struggled to add anything to the scoreboard and headed to the sixth down two.
-
Both teams would find one baserunner in the sixth but find nothing from it. The seventh began with two outs for ASU looking like a repeat of the sixth, when they then found a single from Altamirano. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double from Eiguren making it 9-6. The next batter, Ethan Abegg, sent one over the wall for two more runs making it 11-6. UCCS made it out of the inning but couldn't shorten the lead in the bottom half.
-
The Mountain Lions did a great job of getting out of the top of the ninth without surrendering anymore points. In their final effort to win or send it to extras, Trevor Dale homered making it 11-7, but that was all the Mountain Lions had to offer and the game would end 11-7 ASU.
GAME STATISTICS
-
ASU had eight total extra base hits including two homers during their display at the plate. Meanwhile, on the other side, Dale homers twice along with two doubles from Wigington and another homer from Brinton.
