HOW IT HAPPENED
- First quality chance in the contest went the way of Colorado School of Mines in the twelfth minute of play as RMAC leading scorer Reese McDermott broke free, but UCCS goalkeeper Izzy Lalouette was there to cut down the angle and make the save. The first collegiate save of her career.
- In the 24th minute, Lalouette brought the pressure herself when she came out to challenge a Bella Campos opportunity and was whistled for a foul to award the penalty kick to the Orediggers. Campos took the chance herself but was stonewalled by Lalouette on the near side, keeping the game scoreless.
- The first shot of the night for the Mountain Lions came off the foot of Luka Johnson who steered a chance right at Mines keeper Allie Lundgren who came up with the simple save. The Mountain Lions had several chances deep in the Orediggers end before the shot, but Johnson's was the first put on goal in the match.
- Despite quality chances for both sides in the first frame, the Mountain Lions and Orediggers went to the locker room scoreless.
- The Orediggers were the first to find the net in the 55th minute when Elise Putnum had back-to-back opportunities that sandwiched Lalouette's save. The save bounced back to Putnum who deposited it into the left side of the net.
- Colorado School of Mines would double their lead in the 64th minute when UCCS' Hazel Wright attempted to clear a cross out of danger, but instead re directed it into the open Mountain Lion net, giving CSM the 2-0 advantage with 26 minutes to play.
- Just four minutes later it was Reese McDermott adding to her RMAC lead in goals and adding a third for the Orediggers, beating the Mountain Lions defense in a foot race to the loose ball and finishing into the heart of the net.
- The lead was pushed to four in the 70th minute when Elise Putnum went streaking down the left wing and sent a shot off the near post, a chance she'd clean up herself for her second goal of the match.
- The Mountain Lions earned their first goal of the match in garbage time with just 20 seconds remaining in the contest, Makaila Carlson lobbed a free kick into the penalty area that was cleaned up by Abby Stassi for her first collegiate goal, denying Lundgren her clean sheet.
