GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Vander Hodges of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball program has been named to the South Central Region All-Defensive Team, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Thursday morning.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
After earning his first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Gold Glove this spring,
Vander Hodges adds another defensive accolade to his trophy case after a standout season at shortstop. Hodges stepped into everyday responsibilities at short just over a month into the season, and never relinquished the job. Seeing 145 chances on the left side, Hodges made just four errors, racking up a team leading 103 assists (10
th in RMAC) and turning 24 double plays (T7 in RMAC). Though his defensive prowess was the highlight of his spring, Hodges also was a reliable producer in the batter's box, scattering 29 hits including six doubles and driving in 15 RBIs.
A native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Hodges completed his second campaign as a Mountain Lion this spring after beginning his collegiate career at Allan Handcock College along the central coast of California.
