Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team falls 11-15 in its first game of the weekend against New Mexico Highlands University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS starting pitcher Jason Fink ran into some trouble in the first inning of action when the first three NMHU batters reached base safely. Two would come around to score before the Cowboys loaded the bases. They would add two more to the score and put an end to Fink's outing, as he pitched .2 of an inning before Jose Zubia came out in relief with the bases loaded once again. Four more runs would come around to score as NMHU took an early 8-0 lead.
- The Mountain Lions loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first when Nolan Oliver hit a long double off the left center field wall to plate two. Brendan Killeen soon tripled to right field as UCCS moved the score to 8-4. With Killeen on third, Tyler Genrich hit a home run off the scoreboard to move within two. The Mountain Lions scored one more to make it 8-7 heading into the second inning.
- The Cowboys would go on to score two more runs in the second before an out was recorded and plated two more as they went up 12-7. The next run would come in the bottom of the third on an RBI single up the middle by Quinn Medin to make the score 12-8.
- The NMHU lineup plated another run in the top of the fourth to increase the lead to five. The Mountain Lions answered back in the bottom of the fifth with a two RBI single off the bat of Tyson Mayberry before the Cowboys plated another in the sixth to make it 14-10 in favor of NMHU.
- With no score in the seventh, the Cowboys plated another run in the eighth to go up 15-10 with an inning and a half left to play. In the bottom of the eighth, Genrich hit an RBI double to bring Killeen around to score as the Mountain Lions continued to trail going into the ninth. Unable to plate a run in the ninth, the Mountain Lions fell to NMHU 15-11.
GAME STATISTICS
- UCCS allowed 14 NMHU hits on Friday, walking five.
- Genrich drove in three of the 11 UCCS runs, leading the team in RBIs.
- Fink (1-2) gets the loss for UCCS, allowing seven runs in 0.2 innings pitched on three hits and two walks.
- Zubia pitched 0.1 innings in relief, allowing one run. James Harbison tossed three innings and allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Joe McDermott pitched the final five innings for UCCS, allowing two runs on four hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions' loss on Friday snapped a 16-game unbeaten streak, with their last coming on Saturday, February 21st to Chico State.

- The Mountain Lions are back in action on Saturday, March 28th for games two and three of their four-game series against the Cowboys. First pitch of game one is set for 12 p.m., and game two is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Mountain Lion Park.
