SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Competing in their first road match of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team fell at Westminster University Friday night, 9-8, on a last second goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 2, WU 1
- A quiet first quarter for both teams began with Westminster putting one into the back of the net less than five minutes from the opening draw. Julia Patrick evened the match with a free position goal six minutes later for her 125th career-setting goal. With 1:53 left in the opening quarter, Peyton Ross gave UCCS a 2-1 boost for the Mountain Lions first lead of the game.
SECOND QUARTER: WU 3, UCCS 2
- Just 29 seconds into the second quarter, the Griffins knotted the game at 2-2, before Patrick connected with a cutting Brielle Fannin to put the black and gold back on top, 3-2. Two straight scores from the home team put the Mountain Lions in a 4-3 deficit, but Sarah Urbanic scored UCCS' second free-position goal of the first half to knot the game with just five ticks left in the first half, tying the game at 4-4.
THIRD QUARTER: WU 3, UCCS 2
- Kiley Cuddahy and Ross each scored a free-position goal to open the second half with a 6-4 UCCS advantage. The lead evaporated with the Griffins notching three straight goals to hold a 7-6 edge over UCCS after three complete quarters.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 2, WU 2
- Four minutes into the final stanza, Erica Rivera fired a shot from the right side to end an 11-minute scoring drought for the Mountain Lions and post the sixth tie of the game. After a Griffins goal with 2:12 left in regulation, Brennan Kelly found Fannin in front the goal to knot the game at 8-8 with 1:40 on the clock. The Griffins' Ceila Fidanza sealed the win for the home team on a set play, scoring the game-winning goal as time expired.
FINAL SCORE: WU 9, UCCS 8
GAME STATISTICS
- Fannin and Ross each tallied two goals apiece and combined for seven shots (all on goal).
- Patrick finished the night with one goal and a team-high seven shot attempts.
- Rivera won three of the Mountain Lions six draw controls.
- Westminster's Shaina Shoughro led both teams with three goals.
- Goalie Madison McGriff made 13 saves between the posts.
- Seventeen of the Mountain Lions' 24 shots were on goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Julia Patrick's free position goal in the first quarter marked her 125th career goal and put her on top in the career record books for the most goals scored at UCCS.
