GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – In a game that featured nine ties and five lead changes, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team was held scoreless in the final quarter of action at Colorado Mesa University. CMU scored four answered goals in the fourth period to hold off the Mountain Lions Sunday afternoon, 15-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 5, CMU 5
- Brennan Kelly recorded the first score of the game when she wrapped around the leftside and put the ball into the back of the net. Two straight free-position goals by the home team were quickly answered as Erica Rivera knotted the game at 2-2 on her free-position goal followed by Julia Patrick's first strike of the game. The Mountain Lions lead went up to 4-2 after Kelly worked her way through the defense and looped back to the center for her second goal of the game. The Mavericks struck again from the free position but Emma Grace Martin put UCCS' lead back up to two goals, 5-3. CMU closed out the first stanza with back-to-back goals as Justine Anderson netted four of CMU's five goals in the period.
SECOND QUARTER: UCCS 3, CMU 3
- Another free-position goal by CMU gave the maroon and yellow a 6-5 lead before Sarah Urbanic fired a ball into the cage from six meters out on the left side. Peyton Ross broke the 6-6 tie when she started her attack from the left side and then veered right. Kelly's third goal of the game gave the Mountain Lions their fourth lead of the game, 8-7, but both teams found themselves tied for the sixth time heading into halftime, 8-8.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 3, CMU 3
- Erica Rivera made a pass from behind the net to Allie Schell at the far top of the attacking zone as Schell drove right down the zone to score for the Mountain Lions. Just two minutes into the third period, the Mavericks knotted the game but Kelly slung her stick from her right side down low to notch her fourth goal of the game. The Mavericks added two goals, but Brielle Fannin ended the stanza on a free position goal, tying the game at 11-11.
FOURTH QUARTER: CMU 4, UCCS 0
- Tied at 11-11 entering the final quarter, the Mavericks netted four unanswered goals to take the home win, 15-11.
FINAL SCORE: CMU 15, UCCS 11
GAME STATISTICS
- Eight Mountain Lions scored a goal this afternoon with Kelly netting a team high four goals. She added five shots with four of them landing on goal.
- Patrick attempted a team high six shots and finished with one goal.
- Madison McGriff made eight saves in 60 minutes between the posts and added a team high four ground balls.
- Peyton Ross won a team high five draws and added one goal.
- The Mavericks were led by Justine Anderson's six goals, two assists, 11 shots and 10 shots on goal.
- Emme Rezosko won 12 of the Mavericks 19 draws.
- UCCS was edged by CMU in shots (28-23), ground balls (14-11) and draws (19-11).
- The Mountain Lions converted on 4-of-5 free position shots and were successful on 15-of-19 clears.
