COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Facing Colorado Mesa University for the second time in 12 days, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team took the Mavericks to overtime Friday afternoon, but CMU slipped past the Mountain Lions, 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: CMU 4, UCCS 3
- Carson Dickey scored all four goals for the Mavericks in the opening quarter, including the first goal of the game less than two minutes from the start. Both teams alternated scoring opportunities with Julia Patrick, Erica Rivera and Emma Grace Martin netting the first three equalizer goals. Dickey's fourth goal of the period came with 51 seconds left to give CMU a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER: CMU 2, UCCS 0
- UCCS was held scoreless in the second stanza as Elizabeth Renken and Elssa Freemon extended CMU's lead to 6-3 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 4, CMU 2
- Coming out of the intermission, UCCS was on the offensive attack as Brielle Fannin netted an unassisted goal less than a minute into the half. Casey Good connected with Patrick three minutes later, but the Mavericks lead went back to two goals, 7-5, when Dickey netted her fifth score of the game. Martin chipped in her second goal of the afternoon on a player-up goal at 6:37, followed by a game-tying goal from Patrick with 3:25 left to even the score at 7-7. Colorado Mesa was able to break the tie 35 seconds later to hold an 8-7 advantage after three full quarters.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 4, CMU 3
- UCCS kept the pressure on in the final quarter when back-to-back goals from Martin and Brennan Kelly tied the game again at 9-9. Dickey scored her sixth and final goal of the game to give CMU their sixth lead of the game, but Patrick struck again with just under five minutes to play. CMU took advantage of a UCCS penalty and took an 11-10 lead with 1:20 left in regulation, but a costly turnover led to Martin picking up a ground ball and finding Fannin for the game-tying goal with nine ticks left on the clock and sending the game to overtime.
OVERTIME: CMU 1, UCCS 0
- CMU claimed the overtime win when Caroline Ohngemach found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
FINAL SCORE: CMU 12, UCCS 11
GAME STATISTICS
- Patrick recorded four goals with five of her six shots landing on goal.
- Martin chipped in three goals and an assist while picking up three ground balls.
- Fannin and Beck-Davis each picked up four ground balls with Fannin adding two goals.
- Madison McGriff finished the game in goal with eight saves and three ground balls.
- Dickey led both teams with six goals, nine shots and seven shots on goal.
- Both teams attempted 30 shots this afternoon. CMU edged UCCS in ground balls, 28-25.
- The Mountain Lions cleared 16-of-19 attempts with the Mavericks clearing 13-of-17 attempts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- All three of Martin's goals today were free-position goals as she notched her third hat trick of the season.
- Rivera moves up to No. 5 all-time (tied) for most player-up goals (five).
- Patrick is 11 shots attempted and 13 shots on goal attempted to becoming the all-time leader in both categories. She is also just two free-position goals away from breaking Natalie Church's all-time record of 31.
- McGriff is five saves shy of reaching 600 saves in her career. She is the UCCS all-time leader with 595 saves.
- UCCS is 1-1 this season in overtime games (defeated Dominican, 15-14, on March 4).

- UCCS will play their final home game of the regular season on Sunday, April 21 against Westminster University. The first draw is set for 1 p.m.
