COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Behind 11 saves from goalie
Madison McGriff and 12 caused turnovers from the Mountain Lions defense, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team posted a 10-6 win over Westminster University Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 3, WU 1
- Emma Grace Martin put the Mountain Lions on the scoreboard first with a free-position goal at the 13:59 mark. WU scored the equalizer goal from Shaina Shoughro five minutes later, but it would be the closest the Griffins would reach the Mountain Lions as Ava Goodnature and Sarah Urbanic netted two goals to end the first quarter and a 3-1 UCCS lead.
SECOND QUARTER: UCCS 5, WU 2
- Julia Patrick converted on a free-position goal and 25 seconds later, Brille Fannin notched her first goal of the game, giving UCCS a 5-1 lead with 13:18 left in the first half. Jaden Sellers and Martin chipped in two more scores to give the home team a comfortable 7-1 lead, but Shoughro's goal at 5:00 ended the Mountain Lions 6-0 scoring run. The Griffins Oliva Petrosky notched a free-position goal with less than two minutes remaining, but Patrick connected with Fannin with just eight ticks left in the half for a player-down goal and an 8-3 UCCS advantage at the half.
THIRD QUARTER: WU 3, UCCS 1
- Westminster attempted a comeback in the second half, scoring the first two goals of the third period to bring WU within three goals of UCCS, 8-5. The Mountain Lions answered with a pass from Erica Rivera to Patrick with four minutes to go, putting UCCS' lead back to 9-5.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 1, WU 0
- The lone goal of the fourth stanza was recorded by Brennan Kelly with 3:02 left in regulation, ending a 16-minute scoring drought for the Mountain Lions and securing their fifth win of the season, 10-6.
FINAL SCORE: UCCS 10, WU 6
GAME STATISTICS
- Martin paced the Mountain Lions with two goals and an assist while attempting a game high five shots (four shots on goal) and netting the game-winning goal.
- Patrick also chipped in two goals and an assist and landed three of her four shots on goal.
- Fannin picked up a game high six ground balls while finding the back of the net twice.
- Kathryn Kossack notched a team high two caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
- McGriff finished the game with 11 saves, three ground balls and a .647 save percentage.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions tallied season highs as a team today in ground balls (33), caused turnovers (12) and clears (24).
- Fannin's player-down goal moves her into a tie for first place on the all-time record list (three).
- McGriff reached the 600-saves milestone in the third period today.
- Patrick's free-position goal was her 31st career free-position goal, tying her with Natalie Church for the all-time lead. She is also just seven shots and nine shots on goal away to becoming the UCCS all-time leader.
