COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team dropped Tuesday's non-conference battle against Colorado State University Pueblo in a 16-6 game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The ThunderWolves jumped out on the attack in the first inning after a leadoff double off the left field wall from Kade Snodgrass. He would advance to third on a pass ball and score after a base hit from the next batter. CSUP kept their foot on the gas tacking another run on off a single up the middle and adding a third run after a double down the left field line giving them a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
- After a scoreless bottom of the first for the Mountain Lions, freshman pitcher Tyler Kennedy came in and struck out his first two batters looking but CSUP would reply as Wyatt Reginato doubled to left center field followed by a two-run homerun from Christian Casteneda. The ThunderWolves would carry a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the second.
- CSUP right fielder Elijah Borjas would lead off the top of the third with a solo homer to center field, but Kennedy would settle in and record the next three outs with no more damage. UCCS would break through and get on the board after a pair of base hits from Hayden Iverson and Kit Wigington set up Alec Gomez to groundout to first but scored Iverson in the process. Kasey Campbell would then drive Wigington in after ripping a single to right and the Mountain Lions would decrease their deficit to 6-2 going into the fourth inning.
- Casteneda would then extend CSUP's lead to 7-2 with his second jack of the day and ThunderWolves starter Cameron Saso would keep things quite in the bottom of the fourth for UCCS. The ThunderWolves then erupted for another five runs in the top of the fifth.
- The Mountain Lions were able to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth and would score two after Caleb Chance and Evan Steinberger drove in a run each. UCCS would trail 12-4 going into the sixth.
- Both teams went quiet in the sixth and the seventh innings as Ryder Mancuso threw a solid two and two third innings that included three strikeouts. Hunter Owens would then come in and throw a scoreless eighth. The bottom of the eighth saw UCCS tack on another run after Colton Trudeau drove in Steinberg on a sacrifice fly to deep left field, making the score 12-5 going into the ninth inning.
- The ThunderWolves added four more in the top of the ninth including a third home run from Casteneda. The Mountain Lions were able to add one more themselves in the bottom of ninth but would end up dropping the contest 16-6.
GAME STATISTICS
- Kit Wigington had a nice day at the plate as the he went for three hits in five at bats with two runs scored.
- Kasey Campbell was 2-4 today including a double with one run driven in.
- Evan Steinberger collected two singles, a walk, and one run driven in on the afternoon as well as swiping his third bag of the season.
- Evan Reynolds takes his first loss of the early season while CSUP starter Cameron Saso grabs his first win on the year.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Wigington and Campbell's showing today increases their team leading batting averages to .436 and .360 respectively.
- In his scoreless outing today, Ryder Mancuso has lowered his opponents' batting average against him to just .188. Mancuso has not allowed an earned run in four appearances this season.
- UCCS has now dropped seven straight games.

- The Mountain Lions stay in Colorado Springs, Colo. this upcoming weekend and will take on St. Cloud State University for a three-game series starting at 12 p.m. at Mountain Lion Park.
