HOW IT HAPPENED
- The sub-freezing temperature seemed to affect both teams in the first half of Wednesday's match as there was not a score until the 23rd minute of action when graduate forward Amelia McManus sent a pass to the right side of the ThunderWolves' goal that Abby Stassi sent over a leaping CSU Pueblo goalkeeper for the first score of the game to put the Mountain Lions up 1-0.
- The Mountain Lions built upon the momentum from their first score in the 32nd minute when Fie Steenberg played the ball into opponent territory and dumped it off to freshman defender Malia Groshong who ripped a shot from approximately 30 yards out into the lower right corner of the ThunderWolves' goal that slipped through the diving hands of CSU Pueblo goalkeeper Elaina Leitner to put UCCS up 2-0 going into the half.
- UCCS started hot out of the gate in the second half when in the 51st minute, freshman defender Elise Broberg pulled up on a shot and instead found a wide-open Emily Aguilar lined up with the center of the goal who found the back of the nylon on a looping shot just inches high of the goalkeeper's fingertips for her seventh goal of the season and the Mountain Lions' third of the match.
- The Mountain Lions were not satisfied with a three-score margin as they converted another goal in the 65th minute when Luka Johnson connected with sophomore midfielder Taylynn Levi on a pass to the right side of CSU Pueblo's net who tapped a slow-rolling ball into the lower left corner to put UCCS up 4-0.
- Despite the seemingly insurmountable deficit, the ThunderWolves would not go down without a fight when Carlia Johnson played the ball to Sydney Lasater about 35 yards out from the UCCS goal in the 72nd minute. Lasater, with no ThunderWolves around her, fired a shot just out of the reach of Mountain Lions' goalkeeper Alexa Malaspina into the top right corner to put CSU Pueblo on the board to make it a 4-1 game.
- The scoring continued in the 85th minute when freshman midfielder Mikaela Carlson, lined up about a foot outside of the ride post, tapped a 50/50 cross off the side of her foot that snuck into the bottom corner of the ThunderWolves goal to put the Mountain Lions up 5-1.
