Soren Russell of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team have earned Week 4 RMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week recognition after helping the Mountain Lions earn a pair of 2-1 victories last week against RV Colorado Mesa University and No. 9 Colorado State University Pueblo.
Seminario picks up the first weekly conference award of his career after recording two goals, ten shots and five shots on goal across 153 total minutes last week. In Thursday's 2-1 win over a Colorado Mesa team that received votes in the last two editions of the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, Seminario played 75 minutes and led the team with five shots and two shots on goal. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native raised his game to the next level on Sunday against No. 9 ranked CSU Pueblo as he scored twice while recording five shots and three shots on goal to lead UCCS to a 2-1 win over the ThunderWolves. In the matchup against a CSU Pueblo defense that entered Sunday's game with an impressive GAA of 0.71 on the season, Seminario set the tone early with a goal in the fourth minute and, after the ThunderWolves evened the game just before halftime, drew a penalty kick in the 71
st minute that ultimately resulted in the game-winning goal. The junior forward now leads the RMAC with 11 shots on goal this season and sits tied atop the conference with two game-winning goals.
Russell collects the fourth weekly conference accolade of his career with the Mountain Lions after starting both games in frame for UCCS last week and notching a total of eight saves with a 1.00 GAA across 180 minutes of action. In Thursday's 2-1 win over Colorado Mesa, Russell played the full 90 minutes and made four saves while holding a high-powered Maverick squad that entered the game with an RMAC-leading 2.40 goals per game to just a single goal. The Bellevue, Wash., native continued his strong play on Sunday in a top 10 matchup against No. 9 ranked CSU Pueblo as he held the dynamic ThunderWolves offense to just one goal and finished the afternoon with four saves, including a couple of crucial saves down the stretch that helped the Mountain Lions protect their second half lead and secure a 2-1 win. For the season, the junior goalkeeper holds a 0.88 GAA with 22 total saves and one clean sheet.
After completing their non-conference slate with an unbeaten 7-0-1 record, the Mountain Lions will open their RMAC schedule this week as they head to Golden, Colo., to match up against Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, Oct. 3 before making their way to Denver, Colo., on Sunday, Oct. 6 to take on Metropolitan State University Denver.
