KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team garnered a No. 18 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Poll, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
Midwestern State University was selected as the No. 1 team in the nation after recently concluding their national championship run with a 2-0 win over No. 2 nationally ranked Rollins College at Weidner Field on Sunday. The Mustangs were joined in the postseason top 25 by five additional teams from Super Region 4, including California State University Stanislaus (No. 5), Point Loma Nazarene University (No. 7), UCCS (No. 18), California State University Dominguez Hills (No. 20), and Seattle Pacific University (No. 25). The Mountain Lions were the lone institution from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) to receive recognition in the final poll.
In their fifth season under the leadership of head coach
Lewis Wilcox, UCCS posted a 12-6-5 overall record on their way to landing a No. 18 ranking in the final national poll for the second consecutive year. After opening the 2025 campaign with a challenging early-season slate that saw them post a 1-3-3 record across their first seven games, the Mountain Lions flipped the momentum in their favor with a dominant 2-0 win over Regis in their final non-conference game and never looked back as they notched a 7-2-1 record in RMAC play to secure their first regular season conference title in program history. As the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, UCCS earned a 2-1 victory over Westminster University in the semifinal round before pulling off a thrilling, 3-2 comeback victory over Metropolitan State University Denver in the RMAC Championship match to collect their first conference tournament title and punch their ticket into the NCAA Tournament as the automatic bid from the RMAC.
UCCS' historic run continued into the national tournament as the No. 10 seeded Mountain Lions proceeded to win their first two NCAA playoff games in program history, taking down No. 7 seed California State University Los Angeles in the first round on penalty kicks before earning a resounding 3-1 win over No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills in the second round. Although the Mountain Lions' season came to an end with a 2-1 setback at Point Loma in the third round of the tournament, the Mountain Lions became just the second No. 10 seed from any super region to advance to the third round of the bracket and the first since University of Wisconsin Parkside achieved the feat during the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
