COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf redshirt-senior Travis Bossio has been voted the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Academic Player of the Year, announced on Wednesday by the league office.  Bossio, who was also voted to the RMAC All-Academic First Team, is joined on the first team by redshirt-junior Brandon Bervig.  Garnering RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolades are Trevor Grenier, Lucas Howell and Barrett Jones.

To be eligible for consideration on the RMAC All-Academic First Team, a student-athlete must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters and carry a cumulative 3.50 grade point average (GPA).  All student-athletes that met those requirements but were not selected for First Team, or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30, automatically qualified for the Honor Roll.

A Computer Science major with an impressive 3.957 GPA, Travis Bossio is making his second straight appearance on the RMAC All-Academic First Team.  A native of Olympia, Wash., Bossio has competed in 10 tournaments this year, averaging 74.21 strokes in 28 rounds of action.  He led UCCS at the 2023 RMAC Championship Tournament with a third-place finish behind a five-under par 211 after shooting under-par in each round.  A 2021 All-RMAC Second Team selection, Bossio's 211 at the conference championship was a season low.

Brandon Bervig (Colorado Springs, Colo.) owns a 74.9 stroke average after playing in 10 tournaments and 28 rounds for the Mountain Lions.  A two-time RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection before being voted to the First Team this season, Bervig shot a two-under par 214 at the conference championship April 23-25.  Bervig is studying Business at UCCS and has a 3.703 GPA.

Sophomore Trevor Grenier of Gilbert, Ariz. competed in one tournament this year.  He finished in a tie for 34th place overall with a score of 224 at the Writz at Mile High Tournament on Sept. 11-13.  He is a Business major with a 3.837 GPA.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., redshirt junior Lucas Howell saw action in two meets during the 2022-23 season.  Both competitions came during the fall season at the Writz at Mile High on Sept. 11-13, and the West Texas Ryan Paler Invite on Oct. 3-4.  His three-over par 213 at the WT invite is a season low and was highlighted by a 69 in the opening round.  Howell is working toward a Communications degree from UCCS with a 3.388.

Barrett Jones (Communications, 3.660 GPA) is making his third appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.  A redshirt-senior from Eagle, Colo., Jones competed in all 11 tournaments for the Mountain Lions, averaging a team best 72.9 strokes through 30 rounds of competition. He shot a season best 210 in the Mountain Lions second tournament of the season at the West Texas Ryan Palmer Invite.

The Mountain Lions are the No. 9 seed in the NCAA South Central Region and will compete May 11-13 at the NCAA South Central/West Regional Championship Tournament in Rohnert Park, Calif.
