HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After posting 3,710 points across the first five events of the decathlon yesterday, Hast continued to impress this afternoon as he recorded personal best marks in the discus throw (35.77m) and 1500m (4:26.24). He also came close to his PRs in the 110m hurdles (15.87s), pole vault (4.15m), and javelin throw (52.52m) to tally a school record and national qualifying score of 7,090 points, which currently ranks as the top mark overall in Division II.
  • In the heptathlon, redshirt junior Maggie Remsberg was the top Mountain Lion finisher as she took fourth place overall with a new personal best and national qualifying score of 4,697 points. Remsberg, who finished the final three events of the heptathlon with marks of 5.18m in the long jump, 33.10m in the javelin throw, and 2:32.58 in the 800m, now ranks second all-time in UCCS program history for the event. Faith Novess finished two spots behind Remsberg in the final standings with a sixth place finish at 4,000 points. The redshirt junior fouled on her three attempts in the long jump before tallying marks of 27.56m in the javelin throw and 2:28.77 in the 800m.
  • The Mountain Lions also had a pair of personal best marks in both the men's and women's hammer throw competitions. On the men's side, junior Luke Hard was the top finisher for UCCS with a mark of 54.79m, while freshman Michael Roberts claimed eighth place with a toss of 49.93m. Hard now ranks second all-time in program history for the event, while Roberts moves to fourth all-time. In the women's competition, redshirt junior Cassielynn Bonner tossed a personal best mark of 47.92m for a sixth-place finish and freshman Savannah Jorgens bested her previous record for the event by nearly 12 meters with a seventh place throw of 43.12m. With their impressive throws, Bonner moves to third all-time in the UCCS record book for the event and Jorgens slides into fifth place all-time.
  • Junior Caden Frasl was the lone UCCS student-athlete competing in the men's high jump, where he recorded a third place finish with a season best mark of 1.90m.
  • Sophomore Alison Van Dyke rounded out the Mountain Lion competitors on Friday in the pole vault as she tied for fourth place by clearing a bar height of 3.10m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Hast's decathlon mark of 7,090 points puts him in a strong position to earn a selection to the outdoor national championship meet. Based on the final NCAA Division II Outdoor Qualifying List from last season (2022), Hast's current mark would have finished the season as the ninth best mark overall.
