HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
- Similar to the start from Thursday's series opener, Hayden Iverson and Mason Pastorello reached base safely to start the action Friday afternoon in the opening inning. Kit Wigington laced a single to the right side to drive home Iverson as UCCS took the first lead for the second straight game against the Rangers. Stubbings mirrored Wigington, hitting an RBI single to left field, plating Pastorello and putting UCCS up 2-0 on the scoreboard. The lead didn't last long as the Rangers out-matched UCCS' run output in the home half of the first frame. After the first two batters drew walks for Regis, an RBI single followed by a wild pitch knotted the game at 2-2, shortly before a two RBI single gave the Rangers a 4-2 lead. Still with no outs on the board, the Mountain Lions defense held strong to retire the next three batters.
- The UCCS bats went back to work in the top of the third inning. Starting at the top of the order with the first two batters not able to reach base, the Mountain Lions strung together four straight hits. Wigington started the hitting spree, followed by a single up the middle from Stubbings. Brad Madison then tallied an RBI single before Evan Steinberger belted a three-run home run, giving UCCS the lead back, 6-4. Regis didn't allow UCCS to keep the lead for long as they regained the lead in the bottom of the third frame, scoring three runs off a two-run home run and an RBI double.
- Trailing 7-6 heading into the fifth inning, Pastorello led off the inning after reaching base on a fielding error from the Rangers third baseman. He swiftly moved to third base after Wigington drew the defense to force the out at first base, and then tied the game at 7-7 on Stubbings' sacrifice fly.
- UCCS held the Rangers scoreless through the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, forcing extra baseball in game one of today's doubleheader. Facing two outs and two batters in scoring position, the Rangers Zach Daudel hit a walk off single as RU took an 8-7, eight-inning win.
GAME STATISTICS | GAME ONE
- Wigington and Stubbings collected two hits each to lead the offense. Stubbings finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run scored and a sacrifice fly. Wigington collected two hits on four at-bats.
- Steinberger's lone hit on the day was a three-run shot over the wall.
- Pastorello scored two of the Mountain Lions seven runs after going 1-for-4 at the plate.
- Ryder Mancuso started on the mound for UCCS, allowing three runs on one hit. Evan Reynolds entered the game in relief in the first inning, working four innings and giving up four earned runs on six hits.
- Jon Sotto held the Rangers in place after pitching three innings and keeping the Rangers without a hit or run.
- The Rangers Mason Ashcroft collected the win, pitching a complete game behind six runs, 10 hits and six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
- The offensive output in game two of Friday's doubleheader was slim for the Mountain Lions. The Rangers retired the side for UCCS in six of the seven innings. The offense received a spark from Ronan Hella who drew a walk in the top half of the third frame to become the first Mountain Lion to reach base. Iverson followed with a single to move Hella to second base, but that was as far as UCCS would run the base paths in the shutout setback.
- The Rangers snagged a 4-0 lead after one complete inning, including back-to-back home runs that accounted for three scores. Another two-run home run in the bottom half of the second inning boosted Regis' lead to 6-0.
- The home team put the game away in the fifth inning, adding five more runs to the scoreboard that featured a two RBI triple and an RBI double.
GAME STATISTICS | GAME TWO
- Iverson recorded the Mountain Lions lone hit in game two, while the Rangers struck out seven different Mountain Lions.
- John Hoffman wore the loss after starting on the mound and working the first four innings. Hoffman (3-2) struck out two batters and allowed six runs on 11 hits.
- The Rangers Ryan Garcia earned the complete game win, striking out seven batters and holding UCCS to one hit.
- Maxim Fullerton led both squads with three runs and three RBI on two hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Stubbings 11-game hitting streak ended in game three of the Regis series, while Iverson pushes his hitting streak to nine games.
