DENVER, Colo. – Regis University plated 10 runs in the opening inning Saturday afternoon as the deficit proved too much for a comeback for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team as they fell in the series finale, 12-5, completing the weekend sweep for the Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The series finale started with the first two Mountain Lions unable to reach first base, but a single homerun came off the bat of Kit Wigington to put UCCS on the scoreboard first, 1-0.
- The Mountain Lions lead was short-lived as the home team overpowered the scoreboard with 10 runs in the first inning off six hits as 13 Rangers went to the plate. Regis knotted the game with a homerun on their second at-bat. With two outs on the board and bases load, a single up the middle scored two runs right before two more were added for the home team from a wild pitch and passed ball. Leading 5-1, the Rangers Maxim Fullerton hit a single but a costly error brought in three runs before Regis closed the inning with a two-run dinger.
- Mason Pastorello kept the base paths warm in the top half of the third frame. He singled to reach first base but touched two more bags in the process capitalizing off a Rangers error. With Caleb Stubbings at bat, Pastorello crossed home plate from a balk, cutting into the nine-run hole.
- Evan Steinberger and Ronan Hella led off the fourth and fifth innings going yard, respectively. Stubbings added a second run in the fifth frame with a double down the right field line to bring Pastorello home for the second time this afternoon.
- The Rangers added to their lead with single runs in the home half of the second and sixth innings, sealing the win, 12-5.
GAME STATISTICS
- Madison finished the series going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a homerun, an RBI and one run scored.
- Pastorello was responsible for two of UCCS' five runs this afternoon.
- Stubbings collected two hits on five at-bats, including a double and an RBI.
- Marko Sipila took the loss on the mound, pitching the first two-thirds of the opening innings, allowing nine runs on five hits.
- The Rangers Matt Marlow earned two hits (double, homerun), scored twice, brought in two runs and added a stolen base.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Rangers' sweep is the first time this season UCCS has been swept in a four-game series. The last time UCCS was swept in a series was also by Regis on April 8-10, 2022.
- UCCS finished the series with 33 hits, 18 runs, five doubles, four homeruns and six walks.
- The Mountain Lions' 15 strikeouts today are the most in a game this season.
- Hella and Madison posted their second homerun each of the season, while Wigington launched his sixth homer of the season.
