Mountain Lions Move to Second Place After Two Rounds of RMAC Championship

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Coming off a blistering 13-under par (275) performance in the opening round of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team continued their solid play on Monday, finishing round two with a four-under par 284, bringing their two-day total to 559 (-17).  This year's conference championship is being held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

FROM THE TEE
  • Brandon Bervig holds his third-place tie after shooting a two-under par 70 today.  He started round two posting a two-under par in his first eight holes and finished the round tallying 10 pars and five birdies.  Through 36 holes, Bervig is six-under with a 138 (68, 70).
  • Travis Bossio movied down one spot and is tied for seventh place after the second day of action with a four-under par 149 (69, 71), sinking three birdies on the front nine.
  • Brady Haake carded a three-under par through his first nine holes before shooting two-over par on the back nine.  He finished round two with five birdies and a one-under par 71, totaling 141 through two rounds and a tie for 10th place.
  • Barrett Jones is just one stroke behind Haake with a 142 (tied 14th place).  Jones shot a 37 on each half of the course, sinking 12 pars and two birdies.  Also tied for 14th place overall (142) is James Perry.  Perry made a run where he registered 10 straight holes shooting par including one birdie.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado Christian University moved up two spots to take the team lead.  The Cougars shot a tournament low 14-under par 274 today and currently hold a two-stroke lead over the Mountain Lions.
  • The top three golfers in the field belong to CCU's Xavier Bighaus (136, -8), Adam Duncan (137, -7) and Dylan Arthur (138, -6), respectively.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • The top scoring marks in par 3s (2.95, -2) and par 4s (3.99, -1) belong to UCCS.  The Mountain Lions currently are second in the field for most pars (118), third in par 5s (4.65, -14), and fourth in birdies (36).
  • Haake, Bossio and Perry have tallied 24 pars, the fifth most in the field.  Right behind the trio with 23 pars are Jones and Bervig.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will begin the final round Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. (MT).
