Graham, Hedlund, and Fauske Record NCAA Provisional Marks on Friday at Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had a trio of student-athletes competing on Friday for day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational, with each of the three Mountain Lions making their way into the UCCS outdoor record book for their respective events with national qualifying performances.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Graduate student Marcus Graham got the action started for the Mountain Lions early on Friday morning at Cougar Athletic Stadium, posting a personal best and national qualifying time of 29:26.98 to finish fifth overall among 73 runners in the open section of the 10,000m.
  • Later in the afternoon, junior Kate Hedlund made her way onto the track in heat 12 of the women's 800m invite and raced to a nearly five second PR with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:09.69. Her mark was good for second place in her heat and 69th overall in the 130-person invite section of the women's 800m.
  • Sophomore Anna Fauske rounded the Mountain Lion competitors on Friday underneath the lights in heat four of the women's 5,000m race as she bested her personal record for the event by nearly two minutes with a national qualifying time of 16:38.89 to finish sixth among the 28 runners in the heat.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Graham's 10,000m time of 29:26.98 ranks third all-time in UCCS program history for the event behind only Trent Briney (29:13.75) and teammate Afewerki Zeru (28:56.20).
  • With her time of 2:09.69 in the 800m, Hedlund moves into second place all-time in outdoor program history for the event, only trailing three-time individual national champion Skylyn Webb's career-best time of 2:02.47.
  • Fauske's time of 16:38.89 in the women's 5,000m ranks third all-time in UCCS program history for the event, sitting behind teammate Riley McGrath (16:36.32) and former teammate Layla Almasri (16:31.42).
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will close their west coast trip tomorrow on day three of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Melissa Moreni and Dillon Andrews will start things off at the Cougar Athletic Stadium with hurdle action in the early afternoon, followed by a group of three women and two men competing in the 1500m races that will take place throughout the evening.
