Men’s Golf Registers a 592 in Day One of NCAA West Region Spring Preview

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Competing in a field of 21 teams, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team is currently in 10th place after shooting a 593 across two rounds of action at the NCAA West Region Spring Preview, hosted by Sonoma State University at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, Calif.  The Mountain Lions started the day shooting a 294 in the morning round and finished with a 298 in round two.

FROM THE TEE
  • Only two strokes separate all five Mountain Lions through 36 holes of action.  Barrett Jones is pacing UCCS and is tied for 36th place after carding a four-over par 148.  Jones tallied three birdies and 12 pars in the opening round for an even par 72, before hitting 15 pars in round two as part of his four-over par 76.
  • Tied for 44th place are Brady Haake and Brandon Bervig.  Both Mountain Lions are one stroke behind Jones with a five-over par 149.  Haake opened the tournament with a four-over par 76 behind 14 pars before settling in to drain two birdies and 13 pars as part of his 73 in round two.  Bervig netted a three-over par 75 in round one as he sank 14 pars.  Round two featured four of his five birdies on the day and another eight pars for a two-over par 74.
  • Sitting in a tie for 51st place and fourth overall on the Mountain Lions squad are James Perry and Travis Bossio.  Perry shot an even par 72 in round one but added six strokes in round two despite nailing four birdies on his way to a 78.  Bossio, who is tied with Perry with a scorecard that reads 150 (+6) through two rounds, tallied a 75 in each round and finished the day with six birdies and 20 pars.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Four individual players from West Region teams are tied for the lead after shooting a five-under par 139 through two rounds.
  • Sonoma State University and California State University San Marcos are both knotted for the team lead, posting a four-under par 572 to land on top of the 21-team leaderboard.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • The Mountain Lions boast a tournament best 116 pars, and they own the third best par 4 scoring mark (4.12, +12).
  • UCCS is tied for 10th overall in par 3 scoring (3.30, +12) and their 22 birdies are tied for the 15th most by any team.
  • Haake and Jones registered 27 pars each, the second most of any golfer in the field. 
  • Bervig's 4.00 scoring mark on par 4 holes is tied for the seventh best.
 
UP NEXT
  • The third and final round of the West Regional Spring Preview will begin Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (MT).
