Jones Leads Mountain Lions with Three-Under Par in Day Two of Las Vegas Desert Classic

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Barrett Jones shot a three-under par 69 in the second round of the University of Missouri-Saint Louis Las Vegas Desert Classic, shaving 12 strokes off from Sunday's opening round.  Jones' play on Tuesday improved the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team to move up two spots to 15th place as the Mountain Lions cut off by 24 strokes on Tuesday.

FROM THE TEE
  • Jones' three-under par today featured seven birdies, four of which came in the front half of the course.  Starting on hole 16 this morning, Jones strung together his first eight holes to shoot a three-under par, bringing his two-day total to 150 (81, 69).
  • Tying Jones for 20th place overall is James Perry.  Perry matched yesterday's scorecard of 75, posting a one-under par on the back nine.
  • Brady Haake was one of four Mountain Lions to take off strokes from Sunday.  He connected for three straight birdies on holes 2-4, finishing the round with a four-over par 76.  After a two-day score of 154, Haake is tied for 47th.
  • Bringing in the Mountain Lion scorer's is Brandon Bervig with a 10-stroke improvement from yesterday.  Bervig posted a 76 today, climbing to a tie for 89th place that was highlighted by three birdies on the front nine.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado Christian University holds their one stroke lead over Lee for the second straight day.  After two rounds, CCU leads the 20-team field with a 583, followed by Lee in second place (584).
  • Lee's Beck Burnette shot a nine-under par 63 today to take the individual lead with a 135.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • Jones and Bervig combined to save 22 strokes of the Mountain Lions 24 stroke-improvement from yesterday.
  • Jones is tied for sixth in the field in Par 3 scoring (3.00) and tied for 10th for the most birdies (seven).
  • Through two rounds, the Mountain Lions have claimed 82 pars and 23 birdies.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will tee off Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. in the third and final round.
