Mountain Lions Shoot 320 in Opening Round of UMSL Las Vegas Desert Classic

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Playing in windy conditions Sunday afternoon, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team opened the University of Missouri-Saint Louis Las Vegas Desert Classic with a 32-over par 320.

FROM THE TEE
  • Pacing the Mountain Lions on day one is James Perry.  After shooting a three-over par on the front nine, Perry bounced back and shot an even par on the back nine to card a 75 (tied-14th) behind four birdies.
  • Three strokes behind Perry and tied for 37th place is Brady Haake.  Haake combined to sink six pars and three birdies in the opening round.
  • Sitting in a tie for 70th place with a nine-over par 81 is Barrett Jones.  Six of Jones' 11 pars today came on the back nine where he posted a three-over par 39.
  • Tied for 93rd place and fourth on the squad in scoring are Brandon Bervig and Jake Chesler.  Both Mountain Lions recorded an 86 and combined for 11 pars.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado Christian University's 299 leads the 20-team field and has a one-stroke lead over Lee University.
  • In front of all 100 golfers is Ian McCrary from UMSL.  McCrary used five birdies to score a three-under par 69.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • Chesler is competing in his first ever tournament for the Mountain Lions.  The freshman carded his first career birdie on par 3 No. 8.
 
UP NEXT
  • Round two will begin at 9 a.m. (MT) Monday morning.  The Mountain Lions will be teeing off on holes No. 15, 16, 17 and 18.
