Mountain Lions Move to 10th Place at Battle in the Desert Invite

LA QUINTA, Calif. – In the second day of the three-day Battle in the Desert Invitational, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team moved down one spot and share 10th place on the leaderboard with Sonoma State University.  UCCS posted a 288 on Tuesday, bringing their two-day total to 571.

FROM THE TEE
  • Barrett Jones made huge gains in the second round, shaving seven strokes off from Monday's opening round.  Jones sank two birdies on each half of the course for a two-under par score of 70, bringing his two-day total to 147 (77, 70), tying him for 33rd overall.
  • Brady Haake and James Perry are sitting in a tie for 44th place, owning a 149 after two days.  Haake posted two birdies and 11 pars in today's round, stringing together a birdie and four straight pars on the front nine.  Perry improved by five strokes on Tuesday for an even par 72.
  • Brandon Bervig's 78 on Tuesday dropped him from 18th place on Monday to 46th on Tuesday.  He registered a birdie on his fourth hole of the day and again on the fourth to last hole.  His two birdies paired with 11 pars aided to Tuesday's score of 78 and tournament total 150 (72, 78).
  • After Travis Bossio shared a spot on top of the leaderboard on Monday with a four-under par 68, he moved into a tie for 57th when he carded an 84 on Tuesday, adding to his tournament total of 152.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • CSU San Bernardino continues to hold their lead in the 16-team tournament for the second straight day, carding a 586 (291, 295).
  • John Kim of CSU San Bernardino took over the solo lead for first place, shooting a two-day seven-under par 137 (68, 69).
 
UP NEXT
  • The third and final round of the Battle in the Desert Invitational will tee off Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. (MT).
