Bossio Tied for First Place after Opening Round of Battle in the Desert

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Redshirt-senior Travis Bossio carded a four-under par 68 on Monday in the opening round of the Battle in the Desert Invitational, hosted by California State University San Bernardino at the PGA West Mountain Course in La Quinta, Calif.  After one round of competition, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team is tied for ninth place out of 16 teams with a round one score of 291.

FROM THE TEE
  • Bossio started strong right out of the gates Monday afternoon, firing a four-under par on the front nine that featured an eagle on par 5 hole No. 4 and three straight birdies.  He shot a five-under par between holes No. 4-7.
  • Redshirt-junior Brandon Bervig  is also in the top 20 in the tournament field after posting an even par 72.  He shot a 36 on each half of the course and added three birdies toward his round one score of 72, tying him for 18th place overall.
  • Junior Brady Haake is sitting in a tie for 39th place, tallying a two-over par 74.  Haake posted an even 36 through the front nine with two birdies and a two-over par on the back nine.
  • Barrett Jones and James Perry are tied for 58th place.  Both Mountain Lions carded three birdies each as part of their five-over par 77.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • CSU San Bernardino leads all 16 teams with a five-under par 283.
  • Bossio shares the individual lead with Keith Ng of Hawaii-Hilo and John Kim of CSU San Bernardino.
  
UP NEXT
  • Round two of the three-day tournament will begin Tuesday morning.
