COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs redshirt-sophomore John Hoffman has been tabbed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, announced Wednesday morning by the league office.

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native played a key role in both Mountain Lion wins last week.  In two appearances, the 6-foot-6 pitcher worked eight innings on the mound, surrendering just two runs on six hits and sitting down eight batters on his way to a 2.25 ERA.

On Tuesday at Colorado State University Pueblo in an 8-3 non-conference win, Hoffman entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a 4-1 UCCS lead.  He pitched effectively for four and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while fanning four batters to earn his first win on the mound this season.  On Sunday at home in a come from behind, 10-inning win over University of Northern Colorado, Hoffman entered the game in relief in the top of the fifth inning with the Mountain Lions trailing 6-4, and a runner on second base with two outs on the board.  Facing his first batter of the game, Hoffman struck out the UNC Bear swinging to close the inning.  In the seventh inning, he retired all three batters before being relieved in the eighth inning after holding UNC hitless and striking out four batters.

Hoffman has pitched 13.1 innings on the mound this season in four appearances.  He owns a team best 4.05 ERA, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits with a team high 12 strikeouts while holding his opponents to a .208 batting average.

The Mountain Lions will play host to University of Sioux Falls this weekend in a four-game series.  The action begins on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by Saturday's doubleheader at 11 a.m., and Sunday's series finale at 11 a.m.
