HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams started Sunday afternoon's match with locked down defense as neither team recorded a shot until the 17-minute mark. It wouldn't take the Mountain Lions long to score after this as they notched a goal in the 21st minute after Fie Steenberg kicked a beautifully placed corner for Makayla Merlo to head it just into the right inside of the frame putting UCCS up 1-0.
- Both the Griffins and Mountain Lions traded shots and possession the rest of the half but neither team could get one to go resulting in a 1-0 score heading into the break.
- In a game where neither team could get in a rhythm, the second half would start as a similar story. Time of possession and shots would be traded throughout the back half but neither team would scratch the score board. UCCS would play the final 20 minutes poised and in control by keeping the ball away from Westminster and would hold on to win the match 1-0.
