Men's Golf Finishes Sixth in The Writz at Mile High to Open Fall Season

DENVER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team notches their first top-10 finish of the season as the Mountain Lions take sixth place at The Writz at Mile High after carding a 376 on Tuesday for a final score of +26 (1,106).

FROM THE TEE
  • Coming in as the top finisher for the Mountain Lions was junior Brady Haake who settled in to finish an impressive tied for seventh after shooting an even-par 72 to total two-under par (214) for the tournament. Haake came to shoot one-over par on the first nine holes but captured momentum on the back-nine by making two birdies on the par-5's 12th and 14th then tallied 12 total pars for the third round.
  • Serving as the team's birdie leaders for the day was Barrett Jones and Travis Bossio who each closed their final round at a one-over par 73. Jones (T17) was exceptional on Bear Creek's front-nine with eight consecutive pars then a birdie before hitting the turn as he bagged three birdies in his final nine holes to card a 218 (+2) in the season's first tournament. Bossio (T46) bounced back in a big way by turning in his best round of the tournament that began with a birdie on the monster 617-yard par-5 first and recording 10 pars to contribute towards a final score of 229 (+16).
  • James Perry (T25) represented the third Mountain Lion with a top-25 finish to open the season after carding a 222 (+6). Perry shot six-over par 78 on Tuesday and registered four of his nine pars on the back-nine while also garnering the team's only eagle of the tournament on the par-5 14th.
  • Making a three-stroke improvement from Monday's round was Brandon Bervig (T46) who claimed a two-over par 74 to finish his day at 229 (+13). The redshirt junior swung his way to two birdies on the par-3 seventh and par-5 ninth before making three consecutive pars to call it a round.
  • Lucas Howell (T57) matched his round one score of a 75 and posted a 231 (+15) by recording three birdies and 12 pars on the day.
  • Individual Trevor Grenier (T34) claimed four birdies of his own on Tuesday including three on the front-nine to cement a one-under par as he finished the day with a 74 to end the tournament at 224 (+8).
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado Christian University's Adam Duncan wins The Writz at Mile High after finishing six-under par (210) with a four-under par 68 in the third and final round.
  • Colorado State University Pueblo takes the team title at an eight-over par (1,088) and finishes just two stokes ahead of CCU after turning in a nine-over par (369) on Tuesday.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
 
  • The Mountain Lions finish as the top team in par-5 scoring with an impressive 19-under par. Barrett Jones was the top Mountain Lion in par-5 scoring at six-under par which tied for fourth best in the tournament as Brady Haake tied for the seventh best par-5 score at five-under par.
  • With 183 pars, UCCS tallied the third most pars for the tournament with Jones and Brandon Bervig making the team's most pars at 33 pars each.
  • Haake finished tied for the third most birdies in the tournament (14) and slid in to tie for the eight best par-4 score at two-over par.

  • UCCS Men's Golf will be off the next couple weeks but will return to the links on Oct. 3 for the two-day Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in Canyon, Texas, hosted by West Texas A&M University.
