Three Mountain Lions Sit Inside Top-20 at The Writz at Mile High

DENVER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team moves to sixth place after a 16-over par round two leaves the Mountain Lions just two strokes back out of the top-5 with a 739 (+19) at The Writz at Mile High.

FROM THE TEE
  • Making a four-stroke improvement in round two was James Perry (T14) after the transfer upped his birdie count to five birdies on Monday to shoot two-under par (70) for the day and even-par (144) for the tournament. Perry ended the front-nine with a birdie on the par-5 ninth as he gathered momentum for six pars and two birdies on the back-nine as he matched a one-under par for the back-nine.
  • At one-over par (73) for the day, Brady Haake (T5) remains in the top-5 and just two strokes back from the lead after posting a stellar back-nine on Monday. The junior gathered seven of his 12 pars and two of his three birdies for two-under par on his last nine holes of the day as Haake sits at two under-par through (144) two rounds of play.
  • Barrett Jones remains in the top-20 at tied for 18th with the redshirt senior making 12 pars in his second round that helped him maintain a three-over par in round two and one-over par (145) for the tournament.
  • Also improving his round two score and birdie count was Brandon Bervig (T55) who added a birdie on the par-3 seventh and par-5 12th as he moves to 155 (+11) after shooting five-over par (77) Monday.
  • Lucas Howell (T58) and Travis Bossio (T63) each registered eight pars in their round two and carded an 81 and 84, respectively, as individual Trevor Grenier (T39) added 11 pars of his own along with one birdie on the par-4 16th to finish with a 77 for the day.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Max Lange from Colorado School of Mines is competing as an individual and leads the field with a four-under par (140).
  • Colorado State University Pueblo shoots six-under par today to sit at one-under par (719) for the tournament as ThunderWolves lead The Writz at Mile High.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • The Mountain Lions remain a top team in the tournament in par-5 scoring with the second-best score at 10-under par. James Perry is currently tied for the third-best par-5 score (-4) with Brady Haake tied for the ninth-best score (-3).
  • Haake moves up to 11 birdies which is tied for the most in the tournament as the Mountain Lions tie for the fourth most birdies as a team at 37.

  • The third and final round of The Writz at Mile High is set to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.
