COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt freshmen
Caleb Stubbings and
Kit Wigington each received post season awards this week by combining for three all-region honors between National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Stubbings and Wigington earned second team honors as Stubbings was named D2CCA All-Region with Wigington earning both D2CCA and NCBWA All-Region.
The D2CCA All-South Central Region Teams were nominated and voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors.
The NCBWA South Central All-Region teams were voted on by a committee of 10 members hailing from the RMAC and Lone Star Conferences.
The hometown Colorado Springs native was outstanding in his first year on the diamond with Wigington swinging his way to the nation's 10
th highest batting average in the nation at .437. In 44 games, Wigington has made 43 starts where he has registered a team high 76 hits while notching 1.73 hits per game for the highest average in the South Central region, and fourth highest average in Division II. The All-RMAC First Teamer has garnered 37 extra base hits with 16 home runs and a team high 19 doubles to slug .845, ranking him fifth in the region and ninth in DII. At 54 RBI, Wigington has recorded 14 multi-RBI games with three games of four RBI, including one game of driving in seven RBI as he tied the single game program record against University of Mary on Feb. 28.
Tying a team high 46 starts is Stubbings who has served as the starting first baseman for the Mountain Lions in 2022. Stubbings has flashed the leather with a .988 fielding percentage while also doing damage at the dish by hitting .337 with the 10
th most RBI in the region (63). The Parker, Colo. native has registered a team high 17 multi-RBI games, including six games with three or more RBI as he joined Wigington by tying the program record seven RBI to help lift the Mountain Lions past then number nine nationally ranked Colorado Mesa on Mar. 20. An All-RMAC First Team selection, Stubbings launched a team high 17 home runs for the seventh most in the region while claiming three multi-home run games as two those games came in back-to-back contests. Stubbings went on to earn RMAC Player of the Week along with NCBWA Regional and National Hitter of the Week after hitting .526 (10-for-19) with five home runs, a double, and 17 RBI in a series sweep over Colorado Christian.
