GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Mountain Lions' posted their lowest tournament score of the season on Tuesday as a pair of four-under par scorecards were turned in with
Brady Haake and
Rio Newcombe helping post a team score of four-over par (868) to help UCCS Men's Golf take eighth place at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, hosted by Western New Mexico University.

FROM THE TEE
- The Mountain Lions were led by a pair of underclassmen on Tuesday with redshirt sophomore Brady Haake (T22) and freshman Rio Newcombe (T45) both carding a 68 (-4) in the third and final round. Both Haake and Newcombe were red hot in the last round of play with Haake notching six birdies and Newcombe making five of his own. Haake shot a stellar four-under par on the course's front-nine where he birdied the par-4's fifth and sixth while adding 10 pars to his round. Newcombe also birdied consecutive holes, par-4 10th and par-5 11th, as he shot two-under on both sides of the course. The new career low round brought Haake back to even par 216 for the tournament (75, 73, 68) as Newcombe improved to five-over par 221 (77, 76, 68).
- Finishing as the top Mountain Lion was Barrett Jones who ended with a three-under par 213 (69, 70, 74) to tie for eighth in the tournament. Jones' top-10 finish was a result of a two-over par 74 on Tuesday that saw four birdies on the day with two birdies on the front-nine and back-nine, including a birdie on the par-5 14th to start his round off.
- Travis Bossio (T49) made a birdie on two of the course's par-5's with a birdie on the par-5 second and par-5 11th to help him finish at three over par on the day as he totaled a 222 for the tournament (74, 73, 75). Brandon Bervig (T64) also shot a 75 on Tuesday (+3) after matching Bossio's birdie count while also adding an eagle on the par-5 14th as he shot 225 for the tournament (73, 77, 75).
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Midwestern State University holds on to win the 18-team tournament by 12 strokes after posting a 20-under par 844.
- Jake Doggett of Midwestern State wins the individual title after birdieing his last hole of the day to seal the win at a 10-under par (206) for the tournament.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- In UCCS' lowest 54-hole tournament score of the season (+4, 868), Brady Haake carded the lowest round of his career (-4, 68) and tied his lowest career tournament score (216). Barrett Jones' three-under par 213 is also new career tournament low as Rio Newcombe ties his lowest round of the season (-4, 68).
- UCCS settled in nicely on par-3's throughout the tournament by scoring 11-over par for the lowest par-3 score out of 18 teams.
- After eagles from Jones and Newcombe on Monday, Brandon Bervig added to the mix with an eagle of his own to give UCCS three as a team and tie for the second most in the tournament.
- Haake and Newcombe were amongst the top in par-3 scoring for the tournament as they each finished one-over par to tie for the sixth best score.

- The RMAC Championship Tournament is now on deck for the Mountain Lions and is scheduled to begin on Sunday Apr. 17 and will run through Tuesday, Apr. 19. The conference tournament will be held at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
