Mountain Lions Tie Season Low Round to Remain in Contention at RMAC Championships

CHANDLER, Ariz. – UCCS Men's Golf ties their season low round of five under-par (283) on Monday to remain in contention at the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament as the Mountain Lions are eight strokes out from Colorado State University Pueblo in second place at four-under par (572).

FROM THE TEE
  • Barrett Jones rode the momentum from round one into Monday by making eagle on the par-5 second and following up with nine consecutive pars. Jones was able to make two birdies to wash out two bogeys for and even-par on the back-nine as he carded a two-under par 70 to be tied for 15th through two rounds of play at a 145 (75, 70).
  • Matching his day one score of three-under par (69) is freshman Rio Newcombe who sits just one stroke back from the lead at six-under par (69, 69) to sit in third place. Newcombe upped his birdie count to six on the day to put himself within striking range of the individual title after birdieing back-to-back holes on the par-4 ninth and par-3 10th, and par-5 17th and par-4 18th.
  • Sophomore Brady Haake improved two strokes in day two by shooting even-par with four birdies and 10 pars to move into T17 at two-over par 146 (74, 72) for the tournament. Also coming in at even-par was Brandon Bervig (T11) who birdied three out of the first five holes to help turn in a three-under par on the front-nine as he closed out the back-nine by notching three pars and a birdie to sit at 144 through two rounds (72, 72).
  • Travis Bossio cards another two-over par 74 to place himself tied for 23rd after draining four birdies and eight pars to total a 148 (74, 74) heading into Tuesday.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado State University Pueblo holds an eight-stroke lead over UCCS at 12-under par (564) after going nine-under par on Monday.
  • CSU Pueblo's Andrew Ni and Westminster College's Zach Dallimore currently hold on to the lead in the tournament at seven-under par (137).
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • UCCS cards a season low five-under par (283) round for the second time this season, matching their season low round on Mar. 15 at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout.
  • The Mountain Lions are now four-over par in par-3 scoring for the tournament which ties for the second-best team score as they lead the nine-team field in par-5 scoring at 19-under par.
  • UCCS still paces the tournament in birdie count with 45 through two rounds as Brandon Bervig leads all individuals with 12 birdies.
  • Bervig and Rio Newcombe are tied for the best par-3 score in the tournament at one-under par with Newcombe also tying for the fifth-best par-4 score at one-under par.
  • At six-under par Bervig is tied for the best par-5 scoring out of the 45 individuals as Brady Haake stands alone at five-under par for the third best par-5 score.

  • The Mountain Lions will be back at Whirlwind Golf Club tomorrow morning with the Mountain Lions set to tee-off at 7:57 a.m.
