DENVER, Colo. – UCCS Baseball struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball on Saturday as Regis University took two from the Mountain Lions to sweep the conference doubleheader at a score of 5-0 in game one and 10-5 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
• UCCS'
John Hoffman and Regis Brady Gilmore went right after the opposing offenses to start game one as two scoreless innings saw just two combined hits with Hoffman also picking off Colten Chase at second base to end the first.
• In the bottom of the third, the first runs of game were scored after a pair of hits and a pair of UCCS errors came across to plate one earned run and one unearned run for the 2-0 RU advantage.
• The Mountain Lions were able to find some offense in the top of the fifth after
Dylan Morace led the inning off with a single, but the offense would stop their as the Rangers came back to add their third run in the home half of the fifth. A single gave Regis their first baserunner as an infield error set RU up in scoring position, leading to an RBI single with a UCCS miscue in the outfield to move the Ranger lead to 3-0.
• Then for the second straight inning, the Mountain Lions forced their leadoff batter on with
Macully Sehr driving a double to the left center gap as he advanced 90 feet on the following at-bat to give UCCS a scoring chance with one out. But Regis' Gilmore stranded another Mountain Lion by fanning the next two batters to keep the 3-0 lead intact.
• The Rangers came back in the bottom of the sixth to add more insurance runs by way of a set of solo home runs to extend their lead to 5-0 as Gilmore closed the Mountain Lions out in the final half inning of play to give Regis the game one win, 5-0.
STATS FROM THE GAME | GAME ONE
• The Mountain Lions were outhit 9-4 in the ballgame with the Rangers recording three extra base hits ( double and two home runs) as UCCS notched two doubles.
• Four different Mountain Lions registered a hit with redshirt freshmen
Macully Sehr and
Brad Madison each going 1-for-3 with a double.
• Starter
John Hoffman received the loss in game one after going five inning and allowing four runs (two earned), eight hits, and striking out six.
• Regis' Brady Gilmore came away with the complete game shutout after allowing four hits and two walks while also striking out six in the win.
• Three of the five runs given up came across as unearned with the Mountain Lions committing four errors in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
• Regis came out to put the pressure on early in game two by plating a four-run first inning as three straight base hits to start the inning helped drive in three of the four runs, including an RBI single from Colten Chase and a two-run home run from Joey Cicini.
• Just a half inning later, the UCCS offense came alive to work the Regis lead down to 4-2 as
Kasey Campbell worked his way around after a leadoff walk to score on a wild pitch with
Mason Pastorello showing off his speed on an RBI infield single to cap off a two-run and three-hit inning.
• The scoring continued for Regis in the next two innings as six hits and one UCCS error accounted for five Rangers runs, including a two-RBI single from Matt Marlow in the second and a two-RBI single from Colten Chase in the third.
• UCCS managed to chip away at the Ranger lead once again by adding another run of their own in the top of the third with consecutive singles from Kit Wiginton and
Brad Madison resulting in runners on second and third after a second Regis wild pitch advanced the Mountain Lions over. Redshirt junior
Kiichi Sato then dug in to send sacrifice flyball to right field to give the Mountain Lions their third run and shifting the ballgame to 3-9.
• UCCS Reliever
Evan Langston entered the game in the fourth inning and managed to keep the Rangers scoreless through the fourth and fifth, but Regis added a run onto their lead in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of doubles, pushing Regis out to a seven-run lead at 10-3.
• In the top half of the seventh, the Mountain Lions kept battling with
Kit Wigington making his way on base by notching his second base hit of the game to then bring Madison to the plate who worked a full count and sent the next pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run and 10-5 ballgame. The UCCS offensive spurt then sizzled out as the Rangers held on to the five-run win in game two.

• The Rangers outhit UCCS 17-10 in game two with Regis being responsible for five doubles and a home run.

Cole Philip draws the loss after 1.1 innings of work while giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and one walk. Reliever
Evan Langston entered the game in the fourth and provided three efficient innings by allowing one run on five hits.
• Regis' reliever Zach Harstad received the win in three complete innings that included no runs allowed and just one hit.

Brad Madison finished the day with a team high three hits on a 3-for-4 day that included a two-run home run.
Kiichi Sato and
Mason Pastorello each registered an RBI in game two by going 1-for-3 and a perfect 1-for-1, respectively.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Brad Madison combined to hit 4-for-7 seven on Saturday with two RBI, a home run, and a double.
• John Hoffman matched his season high strikeout count in game one by fanning six Rangers.
