HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Sunday told a different story from the rest of the series with the Mountain Lions establishing a 4-0 lead right out of the gate. UCCS' four-run first inning came off the bats of
Caleb Stubbings and
Brad Madison who combined for consecutive home runs with a solo shot from Stubbings and a three-run bomb from Madison.
• On the bump for the Mountain Lions was
Jon Sotto who allowed one run in the first and retired the Rangers in order through the second for a 4-1 ballgame early on.
• After a leadoff double from
Kit Wigington in the top of third, the Mountain Lions came up short in tallying insurance runs as the Rangers got out of the inning to come out in the bottom half of the third to score two runs on three hits and an error to cut the Mountain Lion deficit to one run, 4-3.
• Sotto and Regis' Porter Hardcastle locked down the opposing offenses again through a scoreless fourth to have four runs plated in the fifth with all of them coming off Ranger bats. A total of three doubles and one home run were registered in the bottom of the fifth to give Regis a 7-4 lead.
• The Mountain Lions kept the offense going with
Zac Dammel driving a triple down the right field line in the sixth, Stubbing going yard for the second time in the game with a solo shot in the eighth, and Wigington notching an RBI single in the ninth to total nine runs in the game.
• But the Ranger offense continued to swing the bat and extend their lead as Regis totaled seven runs in the final three innings to record the 14-7 win.
