FROM THE TEE
- Shooting lights out and working his way to a tied for fourth place finish was Travis Bossio who shot a 219 (73, 74, 72). After finishing out round two at a two-over par (74) Tuesday morning, Bossio maintained momentum into his third round by shooting an even-par 72 that was backed by 13 pars and a three-under par in his final nine holes, including an eagle on the par-5 seventh.
- Rio Newcombe (T46) posted a strong round three finish for the second tournament in a row after swinging to an even-par 72 to finish with a 226 (79, 75, 72) as the freshman finished tied for 25th. Newcombe started on the back-nine where he recorded one-over par, but he settled in on the back-nine by shooting one-under par with two birdies and six pars in that span.
- At a 235 was Barrett Jones (T52) who shot his best round of the day in the third and final round after finishing four-over par (76). Jones' third round also started on the back-nine at No. 10 where he made five pars and recovered on the front-nine by shooting even-par with seven pars and a birdie on the par-5 seventh.
- Sophomore Brady Haake tallied two birdies and 10 pars to wrap up his day in the third round as he finished at a 237 for the tournament and a five-over par in the third round (77).
- Matching Barrett Jones four-over par 76 was Brandon Bervig (T63) who carded a stellar two-under par in his final 12 holes with birdies on the par-4 first and par-5 seventh as he finished with a 238 (78, 84, 76).
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Arkansas Tech University wins the 18-team tournament by 17 strokes by posting a seven-over par 871.
- Jake Doggett of Midwestern State University held on to win the individual title after shooting three-under in the third round and finishing eight-under par for the tournament (208).
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- The Mountain Lions were confident on the par-5 seventh as they finished with at an eight-under par with seven birdies and an eagle through three rounds.
- As a team, the Mountain Lions were a top-5 team in par-3 scoring by carding a 20-over par for the fifth best score of the tournament.
- Travis Bossio cracked the top-10 in par-4 and par-5 scoring by ranking tied for eighth (+5) and tied for seventh (-5), respectively. Bossio also tied for the fourth most pars in the tournament with 37.
- Brady Haake was the team leader with seven birdies as Bossio was one of only 17 golfers to register an eagle in the Lion Invitational.
- UCCS notches their fourth top-10 team finish of the season and their second eighth place finish.
UP NEXT
- UCCS Men's Golf will pick back up on Apr. 4 and Apr. 5 as the Mountain Lions will travel to Goodyear, Ariz. for the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, hosted by Western New Mexico University, before playing in the RMAC Championship Tournament Apr. 17-19.
