Ellis Registers Fourth Place Finish in 5,000M at Indoor Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track & field team had four distance runners compete in the 5,000m race on Friday evening at the Seventh Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic, with redshirt junior Hannah Ellis the first Mountain Lion to cross the line with a fourth place finish overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Competing at the site of the 2021-2022 Division II National Championships, Ellis was the first Mountain Lion to cross the finish line as she completed the 5,000m race in 17:34.68. The native of Greeley, Colo., finished fourth in the race in a field of 46 competitors and improved her fourth-ranking 5,000m mark in UCCS program history by just under four seconds.
  • Redshirt freshman Sarah Bassett finished second for UCCS, coming in eighth place overall with an indoor personal best time of 17:58.17. Bassett was followed closely by Marissa Kuik, who finished 11th with a personal best mark of 18:02.73.
  • Rounding out the competitors for the Mountain Lions was redshirt junior Ashley Frye, crossing the line in 19th place with a personal record of her own at 18:25.96.

  • The Mountain Lions will have a full squad competing at the Ichabod Invitational at Washburn University on Saturday, Feb. 12.
