Men's Golf Opens Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Strong Fourth Place Standing

KOHALA COAST, Hawaii – Three Mountain Lions sit in the top-20 after day one of the University of Hawaii at Hilo's Dennis Rose Intercollegiate as UCCS Men's Golf cards a four-over par 284 to hold a top-5 spot in fourth place.

FROM THE TEE
  • Two days after James Perry (T7) shot the lowest round (68) out of any Mountain Lion this fall, the junior transfer came out to shoot a one under-par 69 in the first day of the tournament. Perry kept his momentum going on Friday by starting his round with five straight pars after starting his round on the par-5 fourth as he turned around and swung his way to a team-high three birdies on his back-nine.
  • One-stroke behind Perry is Brandon Bervig who went out and shot even-par 70 to sit tied for 11th in round one. Bervig registered an impressive 14 pars in his route to even-par as the redshirt junior notched one under-par on the course's back-nine with eight pars and one birdie made.
  • The third Mountain Lion currently in the top-20 is redshirt senior Travis Bossio (T16) who paced the Mountain Lions in pars as he tallied 15 in addition to one birdie for a one-over par 71. Bossio started his day by making eight straight pars from the par-4 third to the par-4 10th as he came to post even-par on the course's front-nine.
  • At a four-over par 74, Barrett Jones (T37) accounts for the last countable score for UCCS as the redshirt junior registered eight pars and two birdies through 18 holes of play.
  • Brady Haake (T68) finishes at eight-over 78 after day one with Haake recording double-digit pars (11) while being the only Mountain Lion to birdie the par-5 fourth.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Individually, Western Washington University's Jordan Lee paces the field of 88 individuals after carding a five-under par 65.
  • Western Washington leads the 16-team tournament at one-over par 281.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • The Mountain Lions are two-over par on par-3 scoring and hold a stroke average of 3.08 for the third-best in the tournament. Brandon Bervig and Brady Haake are helping push UCCS to one of the top par-3 scores by posting a score of one-under and even-par, respectively.
  • Tied for eight-best par-4 score is James Perry who also aids the Mountain Lions in tying for the seventh-best team par-4 score (+11).
  • James Perry, Travis Bossio, and Bervig are tied for the 10th-best par-5 score at a score of one-under par as UCCS sits tied for the eighth-best par-5 score (-1).
  • With 64 total pars in the tournament, UCCS is tied with CSU San Bernardino for the most pars with Bossio also tied for the most pars (15) among individuals.
  • Bervig registers his lowest round of the fall-season (70) as Bossio ties his season-low round after carding a 71.
