Men's Golf Improves 19 Strokes in Round Two of Otter Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. – University of Colorado Colorado men's golf recovered nicely after two rounds of the Otter Invitational on Monday as the Mountain Lions made a 19-stroke improvement in round two to shoot 599 (309, 290) and sit in 14th place.

FROM THE TEE
  • Junior James Perry (T36) recovered nicely from a six-over par 78 in round one by bouncing back to fire off a two-under par 70 to finish 148 (+4) for the day. Perry shaved an impressive eight strokes off his first round 78 by draining five birdies and adding 11 pars.
  • Barrett Jones (T42) sits just one stroke back of his teammate Perry at a five-over 149 after posting an improved even-par 72 in round two with two birdies and three pars in his final five holes.
  • Carding a pair of four-over par 76's was Brandon Bervig (T62) after registering 16 pars and five birdies, while the redshirt junior also got off to a great start in round two by making eagle on the par-5 eighth.
  • Brady Haake (T57) matched Jones' five-stroke improvement into round two as he tallied 11 pars in both rounds but added in an extra birdie in round two for a total of three on his second 18 holes to turn in a one-par 73, and a 151 for the day (+7).
  • At a 157 (+13) is Travis Bossio who claimed 26 pars on the day, including 15 pars in his second round of play to improve seven strokes for a three over par 75.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • California State University Monterey Bay's Simon Bjorken leads the field of 94 individuals at 136 (-8).
  • Barry University paces the 18-team tournament at seven-under par (569).
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • The Mountain Lions finish day one tied for the tournament's third best par-5 score after registering an 11-under par.
  • Barrett Jones leads the field in par-5 scoring with a tournament best eight-under par.
  • Tied for the second-best par-4 score is Brady Haake with a one-under par.
  • UCCS bagged 33 birdies through the opening two rounds to tie for the fourth most with Jones tying for the most among individuals (11) and James Perry adding nine of his own to tie for ninth most.
  • Brandon Bervig was one of 15 individuals to make eagle on Monday.

  • UCCS Men's Golf will be back on Bayonet Golf Course at 9:15 a.m. (MT) for the third and final round in Seaside, Calif. tomorrow morning.
