ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf bests 10 teams in the RJGA South Central Shootout by battling back to take sixth place after shooting a 13-over par 301 in the third and final round. UCCS jumped up three spots from Monday as they finish with a 30-over par 894.

FROM THE TEE
- Freshman Rio Newcombe notched the team's lowest round of the day and his lowest round as a Mountain Lion on Tuesday by carding a two-under par 70. Newcombe tallied five birdies in his final round including a string of three birdies in four holes from hole No. 1 to hole No. 4. Newcombe finished his second collegiate tournament tied for 30th with a 226 (75, 81, 70).
- Ignacio de La Vega finishes as the top Mountain Lion for the second straight week after swinging his way to a three-over par 75 and posting a 224 (75, 74, 75) to tie for 25th. The redshirt senior started his day off with a birdie and garnered four more throughout the day to match his round one score.
- Entering the tournament as the No. 4 man, redshirt junior Barrett Jones cards UCCS' second-best score at a 225 (75, 72, 78) for the tournament to place tied for 28th at nine-over par.
- Sophomores Brady Haake and Brandon Bervig hold on to finish 32nd and tied for 33rd respectively, as Bervig matches Monday's second round score to end 12-over par with Haake carding an 11-over par through three rounds of play.
- Lucas Howell posts the best finish for the Mountain Lions as an individual by following up an impressive Monday with a four-over par 76 to put him inside the top-10 with a tied for 10th place finish. Freshman Trevor Grenier represented UCCS as the second individual as he places tied for 70th at 20-over par.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Colorado State University Pueblo wins the 16-team tournament at a seven-under par 857.
- Matt Millar of CSU Pueblo was the individual winner after shooting a six-under 210.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- The Mountain Lions register the fourth best team average and score on par 3s with a 3.27 average and 16-over par score.
- UCCS also notched the second best average and score on par 5s for the tournament with a 12-under par and 4.80 average.
- As a team, the Mountain Lions scored the third most birdies in the tournament with 39 total birdies.

- UCCS Men's Golf will stay local for their next tournament as the Mountain Lions travel south to Pueblo, Colo. for the 2021 Farmers Insurance Sam Proal West/South Central NCAA Regional Preview, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5.
