The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team will continue their fall season by traveling to Albuquerque, N.M. for the two-day RJGA South Central Shootout hosted by Western New Mexico University on Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21.

UCCS Men's Golf began the season with a top-5 finish at The Writz at Mile High after turning in a 15-over par 879 to slide into fifth place at the 14-team tournament earlier this week. Four Mountain Lions finished in the top-25 with redshirt senior
Ignacio de La Vega posting the team's lowest score of a two-over par 218 (72, 73, 73) to place tied for 11
th. Freshman
Rio Newcombe carded the team's lowest score on Monday by notching a 71 in round one and ending the tournament tied for 15
th at a four-over par 220. Rounding out the top-25 for UCCS was
Brady Haake (221) and
Barrett Jones (222) who ended Tuesday tied for 19
th and 25
th, respectively. Junior
Lucas Howell ended on his lowest round by swinging to a 75 as
Brandon Bervig competed as an individual where he shot a one-under 73 in the first round and wrapped up the tournament at 224.

Weather Forecast
The forecast for Monday will be mainly sunny with a high of 87 degrees. It may also be a bit windy with winds reaching as high as 10 to 20 miles-per-hour.

As for Tuesday, the temperature will cool off a bit as the high drops down to 81 degrees but staying mainly sunny. The chance of wind is set to drop as well with gusts reaching five to 10 miles-per-hour.

UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH PHIL TRUJILLO
Phil Trujillo is in his 21st year of coaching at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and has built a program with 13 RMAC championships, 17 consecutive NCAA Division II regional championship appearances and six national berths. The program is consistently ranked in the top 20 of Division II rankings.
Trujillo is a four-time RMAC Coach of the Year and a seven-time Golf Coaches Association of America Regional Coach of the Year. The Mountain Lions have never finished lower than fifth at the RMACÂ Championships and won or shared the conference regular season and tournament titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-2017 seasons. In 2009, UCCS won the NCAA regional tournament.
Seven Mountain Lions have combined for nine All-America titles under Trujillo. Colin Prater became the first golfer in program history to earn First Team honors in 2017 and has accomplished that the last two seasons. Three Mountain Lions have earned RMAC Freshman of the Year honors.

UPCOMING TOURNAMENT
The Mountain Lions are scheduled to be back on the links Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5 as they compete in the 2021 Farmers Insurance Sam Proal West/South Central NCAA Regional Preview, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club.
