PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team shot a solid five-under par 279 Monday in the opening round of the Colorado State University Pueblo Southern Colorado Masters. UCCS posted a second round score of 295 and are currently in second place with a 574.

Leading the Mountain Lions after one day of action are
Travis Bossio and
Isaac Spillum who are both tied for 11
th place with a 143. Bossio opened the tournament with a 33 on the front nine after hitting seven pars and two birdies. Bossio, who shot a two-under par 69 in the first round and a 74 in round two, finished round one with six birdies and combined for 18 pars and nine birdies between the two rounds.
Spillum also posted a solid start to the tournament, hitting two birdies and seven pars for a 33 on the front nine to card a 70 in round one, followed by a 73 in round two. Three of his five birdies on the day came in the first round while he totaled 25 pars.
Tied for 22
nd place is
Brady Haake with a 146. Haake opened the tournament with an even par 71 and finished with a 75 in round two. Haake was one of four Mountain Lions to shoot par or better in round one. He tallied six birdies on the day, two of which came in the first nine holes.
One stroke behind Haake is
Brandon Bervig in 25
th place with a 147. Bervig drained an eagle on hole No. 5 (par 5) and notched seven birdies as he shot a 74 and 73, respectively.
Barrett Jones joined Bossio and Spillum in shooting under par in the opening round. Jones posted a score of 69 in the first round, hitting par on the first nine holes of the day before adding three birdies on the back nine.
Competing as individuals are
Lucas Howell (T-29
th) and
Ignacio de La Vega (T-39
th). Howell owns a 148 (73, 75) through two rounds while de La Vega opened with a 78 before dropping five strokes (73) in round two.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Host team Colorado State University Pueblo leads the eight-team tournament with a 573 (282, 281). Kristoffer Max of Colorado is the individual leader with an eight-under par 134 (65, 69).

The third and final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning.
