Men’s Golf Opens Season at Las Vegas Desert Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team opened their spring season March 7-8 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.  The Mountain Lions finished 11th out of 14 teams with a three-round score of 893 (288, 295, 310).  UCCS finished third in the tournament in par 3 scoring (3.15).

FROM THE TEE
Brady Haake led the Mountain Lions after carding a three-round total of 218.  After posting 73's in his first two rounds, Haake finished the tournament with a 72.  He recorded three birdies in each round and finished fourth overall for the most pars (36).
 
Isaac Spillum, who recorded the lowest round of the tournament for the Mountain Lions in round two (70), posted the second-best score for UCCS with a 225 (74, 70, 81), finishing in a tie for 40th place.  Six of Spillum's 10 birdies in the tournament came in the second round.
 
Travis Bossio was one stroke behind Spillum and finished 48th overall.  Bossio opened the tournament with a 71 but shot a 75 and 80 in the final two rounds.
 
Barrett Jones rounded out the Mountain Lions scoring core, shooting a 227 to finish in a tie for 51st overall. 
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Central Missouri University won the team title with a 17-under par 847.  Erik Edwards of Indianapolis took home the individual time with his 203 (65, 67, 71).

UCCS will compete March 22-23 at the Saint Martin's Invitational in Dupont, Wash.
