HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Defense was the name of the game as the first half went scoreless between both teams.
• The Mountain Lions faced eight shots in the first 45 minutes as keeper Chloe Deshazer stopped both of the Griffins' shots on frame to hold them scoreless.
• Redshirt juniors Tori Maydew and Tarah Patterson along with Amelia Junge each notched a shot on goal in the first half but the Griffins pulled off stops of their own to head into halftime 0-0.
• The second half started how the first half ended as only one shot was recorded by WC in the first 15 minutes.
• As the UCCS backline stopped the Griffins in their tracks, the UCCS offense gathered a spark after Patterson found a seam in the 62nd minute to register the game-winning goal and capture the 1-0 UCCS lead.
• Team captain Ella Fischer and reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Zoe Sims held down the backline to force continuous defensive pressure that resulted in only one Griffin shot for the rest of the second half.
With the UCCS backline securing the lead, Patterson went work once again as she scored her second goal of the half off an assist from sophomore Kaitlin Hinkle in the 82nd minute to put the game away 2-0.
