Mountain Lions Finish as Runners-Up in Otter Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs posts the lowest round three score of the tournament to card an 890 and finish as runners-up at the Otter Invitational on Tuesday.

FROM THE TEE
  • Turning in a new career low 54-hole round score of 218 (81, 70, 67) and career low single round score of 67 is redshirt junior Barrett Jones. Shooting 11 strokes better from round one to round two, Jones capped off his third and final round with a five-under par to finish tied for third as he drained five birdies and an eagle on the par 5 hole No. 1.
  • Joining Jones in the top-10 is sophomore Brady Haake who shot his best round of the tournament by carding an even-par 72 for a 222 (76, 74, 72). Haake shaved off two strokes from his round two score by tallying five birdies in the final round as he birdied back-to-back par 5s on holes No. 18 and No. 1 to finish tied for eighth.
  • Brandon Bervig also shot his best round of the tournament on Tuesday after registering 14 pars to notch a two-over par 74 and a score of 226 (77, 75, 74) as he claimed a tied for 17th finish.
  • Ignacio de La Vega went on to birdie back-to-back holes on No. 12 (par 4) and No. 13 (par 4) to help record a tied for 23rd finish as he shot a four-over par 76 for a 227.
  • Freshman Trevor Grenier matched his round two score of a three-over par 75 on Tuesday by posting nine pars and three birdies, including a birdie on hole No. 7 to end his day and tournament with a 229.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • California State University San Bernardino won the 15-team tournament with a 25-over par 889.
  • Matthew Pennington of California State University San Marcos captures the individual title with a three-under par 213 (73, 73, 67).
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • UCCS was one stroke out of the lead as they posted the lowest round three score at a 288.
  • The Mountain Lions came to lead the field in par 3 scoring with a nine-over par and 3.15 average. UCCS also led the tournament with 159 pars and the recorded the third most birdies with 40.
  • Barrett Jones was one of 12 golfers to sink an eagle as he tied for the second-best score on par 5s at six-under par. At two-under par, Ignacio de La Vega went on to tie for the second best par-3 score.
  • Brandon Bervig ended the Otter Invitational tied for the most pars with 36.
