Men's Golf in Fourth Place After Day One of LSC-RMAC Shootout

EL PASO, Texas  The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team kicked off the 2020-21 season with their first day of competition at the 2020 LSC – RMAC Shootout on Monday as the Mountain Lions shot a 580 (four-over par) after carding a 286 in round one and 294 in round two to place them fourth.

Three Mountain Lions are currently placed in the top-20 after day one with freshman Brady Haake (Gilbert, Ariz.) leading the way as he sits tied for 10th at two-under with a score of 70 in the first round and 72 in round two for a 142. Haake registered seven birdies on the day as he made eagle on No. 16 in the first round.

Graduate Student Tanner Comes (Spokane, Wash.) opened round one with a 71 as he came back in the second round to birdie No. 14 and No. 15 then eagle No. 2 to finish even 72 and place tied for 13th at one-under going into Tuesday.

Senior Ignacio de La Vega (Toluca, Mexico) rounded out the top-20 by scoring a 74 in round one but settled in round two after an eagle on par five No. 14, followed up by a birdie on No. 15 for a 71 and a score of 145 to place tied for 19th.

Fellow senior Isaac Spillum (Scottsdale, Ariz.) also improved on round two as he came back to shoot even 72 after posting a 79 in round one to register a score of 151. Barrett Jones finished the day at 154 as he posted seven birdies on the day.

Competing as individuals, newcomers Travis Bossio (Olympia, Wash.) and Lucas Howell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded scores of 145 and 157 respectively. Bossio is one over as he shot even in round two for his Mountain Lion debut to place tied for 19th at one-over par.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
 
Western New Mexico University leads the 12-team tournament with a 570 (six-under par). 
 
Midwestern State University's Garrett Leek leads all 70 golfers with an eight-under par 136.

The second and final round of the 2020 LSC – RMAC Shootout will begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
