UCCS Men’s Cross Country Takes Home Second place at the UCCS XC Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team falls just short of their second consecutive win as they finish second in the UCCS XC Open. The Mountain Lions faced off against Metropolitan State University, Denver, Colorado Christian University, and Chadron State College at the Cherokee Ridge Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.

MEN'S 8K RACE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mountain Lions finished in second place in the race with a total of 29 points, narrowly losing to Colorado Christian who recorded 27 points. Afewerki Zeru won his second consecutive individual race as he crossed the finish line with a time of 25:56.10. Evan Graff was the next top finisher for UCCS in the fourth spot with a time of 26:49.10, followed by Mark Simmons (6th, 26:57.60), Luke Rodriguez (7th, 27:17.70) and Sam Nofziger (11th, 27:26.20).
  • Colorado Christian's Josh Pierantoni and Ryder Searle finished in second and third place, respectively. Pierantoni finished with a time of 26:10.10, while Searle crossed the finished line two second later at 26:12.90.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • This race marks the first time that the UCCS men's cross country team has competed at the Cherokee Ridge Golf Course, and they performed admirably with four top-10 finishes including the first overall spot.  The spectator-friendly course was designed with 1K loops.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 when they will compete in an intrasquad 6K at Monument Valley Park. UCCS' next team competition will be Oct. 24 at the RMAC Championship meet.
