Mountain Lions Open 2026 Season with Home Meet Victory

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team, ranked No. 16 nationally, opened the 2026 season by hosting the UCCS Rust Buster 8K Invite on Saturday at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Mountain Lions claimed the team title, finishing first among five teams with 20 points to lead the field. 
 
INSIDE THE UCCS RUST BUSTER
  • Course | Location: Monument Valley Park | Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Course Length: 8k
  • Elevation: 6,109 feet above sea level 
 
AROUND THE COURSE
  • The Mountain Lions were led by Brett Davis, who captured the individual title with a winning time of 25:25.9. 
  • Teammate Enzo Knapp followed closely behind, crossing the finish line in 25:39.6 to secure runner-up honors. 
  • Caden Leal, Jonas Graff, and Michael Burke Jr. rounded out the Mountain Lions' scoring five, placing fourth (25:53.2), sixth (25:56.9), and seventh (26:00.8) respectively, as UCCS placed five runners among the top seven finishers. 
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior Brett Davis claimed individual victory out of 64 finishers at the meet. 
  • Teammate Enzo Knapp finished runner-up with a time of 25:39.6, giving the Mountain Lions a 1-2 finish. 
  • MSU Denver's Darren Hayden rounded out the top three, placing third overall with a time of 25:42.6. 
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • The Mountain Lions opened the 2026 season with a first-place team finish, scoring 20 points in the five-team meet.
  • Jonas Graff recorded a new personal best in the 8K with a time of 25:56.9, surpassing his previous best of 26:07.9.
 
UP NEXT
  • UCCS will head to Denver, Colo. on September 19 for the MSU Denver Roadrunners 8k Invitational.
