COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Ten University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse student-athletes have earned 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic accolades, announced today by the conference office.
Natalie Church (3.741 GPA, Biochemistry) and
Holly Sodomka (4.00 GPA, Business) were voted to the First Team while eight more were named to the Honor Roll:
Mallory Corrigan (3.548 GPA, Sport Management),
Madison Ellis (3.522 GPA, Biology),
Kyer Frederick (3.735 GPA, Biology),
Alison Kobel (3.695 GPA, Exercise Science),
Kiera Lowe (3.521 GPA, Accounting),
Sammie MacAffer (3.568 GPA, Geography/ Environmental Science),
Sydney Malcolm (3.621 GPA, Biochemistry), and
Morgan Miller (3.544 GPA, Biology).
Due to the shortened season, first team nominations and voting included the student-athletes career statistics.
Kenzie Blackwell of Colorado Mesa headlines the 2020 RMAC Women's Lacrosse All-Academic team after being named the Academic Player of the Year. Blackwell and the rest of the All-Academic First Team members were voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters. All student-athletes that meet those requirements, but were not named First Team, automatically qualify for Honor Roll.
A four-sport student-athlete from Snohomish, Wash., junior midfielder
Natalie Church was named to the 2019 All-Academic First Team and the All-RMAC Second Team. As a freshman in 2018, she was tabbed the RMAC Freshman of the Year and to the All-RMAC First Team. She has been named to the RMAC Cross Country All-Academic Honor Roll list the past two seasons, and to the 2019-20 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Honor Roll and the 2018-19 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Honor Roll. On the field, Church has started all 37 career games she has competed in, accounting for 110 points (65 goals, 45 assists), including two game-winning goals. She has landed 116 of her 156 shots on goal while winning 240 draws and adding 94 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers.
A sophomore midfielder from Apple Valley, Minn.,
Holly Sodomka has totaled five goals and one assist. Three of her goals came this season in just six games played. A starter in 17 of the 22 games she has competed in, Sodomka has registered 36 draws, 32 ground balls, caused 20 turnovers and attempted 17 shots (10 on goal). Over half of her 36 draws (19) came in 2020.
A three-year member of the Mountain Lions program,
Mallory Corrigan (Blaine, Minn.) has registered 39 points in 34 games. She has found the back of the net 21 times and has assisted on 18 goals. The junior attacker has added 22 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. This is her second RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolade (2019).
A four-year student-athlete and a member of the first four-year class for the UCCS lacrosse program, senior attacker
Madison Ellis (New Freedom, Pa.) was the first recruit to sign with the Mountain Lions. She also recorded the first assist and first ground ball in program history. A 2018 Team Captain, Ellis was also named to the 2018 D2ADA Academic Achievement list. She is making her third appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll and earned RMAC Honorable Mention honors twice. In 53 career games at UCCS, Ellis tallied 50 starts, 87 points, 72 goals, 15 assists, nine game-winning goals, 146 shots (133 on goal), picked up 60 ground balls, won 25 draws and caused 20 turnovers.
Sophomore
Kyer Frederick has started 11 of the 22 games she has competed in the past two years. The midfielder from Helena, Mont. has tallied 16 points, 15 of which came from goals. She has attempted 39 shots (30 shots on goal) while winning nine draws and scooping up 19 ground balls.
A native of Torrance, Calif., senior attacker
Alison Kobel has been with the Mountain Lions the past two years. This year's team captain, Kobel received 2019 D2ADA Academic Achievement and RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll honors. She started seven of nine games she competed in, netting one goal and landing six of her eight shots on frame while adding six ground balls.
Junior attacker
Kiera Lowe (Bloomington, Minn.) is earning her second straight RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll award. A 2019 RMAC Honorable Mention selection, Lowe has competed in 39 games for UCCS and started 29. Sixty-one of her 94 points have come from goals while she has assisted on 33 more goals. Lowe has attempted 130 shots in three seasons, with 96 landing on frame. She picked up 38 ground balls, caused 12 turnovers and won 16 draws.
From Slingerland, N.Y., junior defender
Sammie MacAffer has played in 10 games for the Mountain Lions, netting one goal and one assist. She has tallied eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Junior midfielder
Sydney Malcolm (Lee's Summit, Mo.) has started all but one of her 38 career games at UCCS. A 2019 RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll member and a 2018 RMAC Honorable Mention selection, Malcolm netted 18 of her 32 career goals in her freshman campaign in 2018 and has totaled 36 points in the past three years. She has accounted for 49 ground balls and won 39 draws, while 10 of her 26 caused turnovers came in just six games this season.
A native of Colorado Springs, Colo. and a two-time RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll awardee, junior defender
Morgan Miller has recorded 30 ground balls, caused 20 turnovers and won seven draws in 39 career games. She has found the back of the net three times as all four career points came last season as a sophomore.
The Mountain Lions posted a 3-3 record when the 2020 season was called, including three straight home wins (3-1 home record).
