COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer head coach
J. B. Belzer has announced the addition of four future Mountain Lions during the 2020 early signing period. UCCS received National Letter of Intents from the attacking duo of Sydney Lasater and Jadyn LeDoux from Sand Creek High School, Idaho State Champion McCall Pugh from Eagle High School, and Kansas State Champion Natalie Wilson from Blue Valley Southwest High School.
Sydney Lasater (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is a two-time Pikes Peak Athletic Conference (PPAC) All-Conference selection who helped the Sand Creek Scorpions to a conference championship her freshman year and a state semi-final appearance during her sophomore year. As a varsity letter winner in both her freshman and sophomore year, Lasater recorded a combined 67 goals and 26 assists in 30 games played at varsity before her junior season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Her outstanding play on the pitch resulted in a Gazette Preps All Stars First Team selection as a freshman, as well as KOAA Athlete of the Week, Max Preps/United Soccer Coaches High School Player of the Week, and a Team Offensive MVP during her sophomore year. Lasater's academics are equally as impressive with earning Honor Roll every semester, receiving Academic Varsity Letter each year, all while holding a cumulative GPA of 4.40. Outside of soccer, Lasater has served on Athletics Leadership Council while also working as the boys soccer and football team manager.
"When you need a goal in a big moment, Syd, continually delivers," stated Belzer. "Scoring prolifically for Pride FC and Sand Creek HS, she is relentless on both sides of the ball with physicality to conquer the demands of RMAC and South-Central Region play."
Sand Creek teammate Jadyn LeDoux (Colorado Springs, Colo.) joins the Mountain Lions as a forward who also helped the Scorpions to a PPAC Championship in 2018 and a state semi-final appearance in 2019. In her varsity career, LeDoux has netted 26 goals and has registered 25 assists in 23 games played. The three-time varsity letter winner broke out in 2019 as she was voted Team MVP and added a 4A All-State First Team and 4a All-Conference First Team selection. The senior-to-be has received Academic Varsity Letters each year as she also earned a varsity letter for football in 2019.
"Having a 'big engine' is critical for effective wing play in our interpretation of the game," Belzer said. "Jadyn's stamina and combination of power with speed caught our attention early. Another Pride FC and Sand Creek HS key performer, she will wreak havoc on opponents up and down either flank."
A center back from Meridian, Idaho, McCall Pugh is set to graduate from Eagle High School in 2021. At Eagle HS, Pugh helped the Mustangs to finish fourth in state during her junior year. Before attending Eagle HS, Pugh helped the Rocky Mountain High School Grizzlies to a 5A Idaho State Championship in 2018.
"McCall is that physically imposing center-back who adds craft and subtlety in attacking build-out play," stated Belzer. "A vocal leader within her OL Reign Idaho club, she wins balls out the air often, which will help us in both attacking and defending restarts."
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Natalie Wilson comes to the Mountain Lions as a center back and center midfielder from Blue Valley Southwest High School. Wilson, a two-time varsity letter winner, is no stranger to success as she helped the Timberwolves to two Eastern Kansas League (EKL) Championships (2017-18, 2018-19) and a 5A Kansas State Title (2017-18). During her sophomore year, Wilson cemented herself as a varsity starter and went on to earn All-EKL Honorable Mention. In the classroom, Wilson is a three-time Principal's Honor Roll slection and Academic Excellence Letter recipient, while also earning Outstanding Junior in Spanish Award. Off the pitch, Wilson is a member of both the National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society.
"A versatile, athletic player comfortable in center-back, fullback, and/or holding-mid roles, Natalie will leverage her Sporting Blue Valley MRL experience to compete for minutes and roles within our squad," Belzer said. "Fiery and tenacious, she prides herself on her defending skills."
As COVID-19 provided uncertainty during this fall, the UCCS women's soccer team is slated to begin their season in spring of 2021. With the upcoming season on the horizon, coach Belzer looks forward to adding the four signees to a talented group of returners.
"We will return a great group of student-athletes in the fall of 2021 who have battled courageously through the pandemic with real appetite to train, to improve, and to compete internally," stated Belzer. "Adding these four, true freshman will further increase intra-squad competition that ultimately drives successful teams forward. Our aim for fall 2021 is to improve in the defending and attacking to defending transition moments as we compete for national honors. Each in the incoming class of 2021 demonstrate ability to succeed defensively yet will continue the legacy of exquisite attacking soccer that has elevated UCCS Women's Soccer to national prominence."
