PREVIEW | #2 UCCS Travels to Grand Junction to take on CMU and Western State

This Week's Games
  • The #2 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will be in Grand Junction, Colo. for a pair of RMAC matchups.
  • On Friday, September 27, #2 UCCS will take on Western Colorado University (WCU) at 4 p.m.
  • On Sunday, September 29, #2 UCCS will play Colorado Mesa University (CMU) at 1:30 p.m.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • The Mountain Lions improved their record to 6-0 with another weekend sweep of Colorado State University – Pueblo (CSUP) and New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU). That also gives UCCS a 2-0 start in the RMAC.
  • Against CSUP, UCCS was uplifted by junior Shanade Hopcroft as she scored two first half goals, one of which was a penalty kick.
  • CSUP would try to fight back as they cut the deficit to one in the 64th minute, but the Mountain Lion defense held strong as they got the win 2-1. UCCS out shot CSUP 20 to 7 in the game, with eight shots on goal.
  • On Sunday, UCCS showed why they own the #2 spot in the nation as they throttled NMHU by a score of 6-1.
  • Five different players scored in the game, with freshman Kaitlin Hinkle scoring the first two goals of the game, assists to Hopcroft and freshman Jaden Davis. Hopcroft would add another goal off an assist from freshman Zoe Sims in the final minute of the first half to make the score 3-0.
  • In the second half it was more of the same as junior Ella Fischer scored in the 51st minute off an assist from Hinkle. Hinkle would add another assist to her fantastic day as she found sophomore Amelia Junge in the 65th minute, making the score at that point 5-1.
  • UCCS would add another goal for good measure in the 89th minute as Sims scored off an assist from freshman Mitsy Ramirez.
  • The Mountain Lions berated NMHU with shots as they got off 27 (13 on goal) to NMHU's 10.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • UCCS currently sits atop the RMAC with a perfect 6-0 record, including their 2-0 RMAC record. The Mountain Lions remain the only team in the RMAC without any blemishes.
The Series
  • Against WCU, UCCS owns an 8-2 record. The Mountain Lions have won four straight matchups against the Mountaineers, including a 2-0 shutout in their most recent matchup.
  • Against CMU, UCCS has a record of 4-8-2 all-time. However, the Mountain Lions have dominated the matchup in recent years as they have outscored CMU 9-0 in their last two matchups.
  • In the most recent matchup, UCCS won 5-0, the largest margin of victory by either team in the series.
Scouting the Opponent
  • WCU has struggled this season as they own a record of 0-6. The Mountaineers have been shutout in five of their six games.
  • WCU has scored only one goal on 29 shots (12 on goal) while allowing 27 goals on 137 shots (66 on goal.
  • Individually, Miss Webb has the only goal of the season for WCU to her name.
  • Kaeyla Noble is the main goalkeeper for WCU as she has 24 of the team's 38 saves this season. She also has a save percentage of 68 percent.
  • CMU currently has a 4-2 overall record this season, including a 1-1 record in the RMAC. The Mavericks have scored 10 goals on 82 shots (43 on goal) and allowed six goals this season.
  • CMU also has four assists, 24 corner kicks and a shots on goal percentage of 52 percent.
  • Individually, Ryanne Parker and Zoe Peterson lead the offense for CMU as they both have two goals and one assist so far this season. Taylor Jones is also tied for the team lead in goals with two.
  • Goalkeeper Kamrie Gunderson has played all six games in net for CMU and has 22 saves and a save percentage of 78 percent.
Hot Takes
  • UCCS retains the #2 spot in the nation thanks to another 2-0 weekend.
  • Five different Mountain Lions scored last weekend as Shanade Hopcroft and Kaitlin Hinkle led the way for UCCS.
  • Hopcroft finished the weekend with three goals and one assist, totaling seven points to lead the team. Those goals were her first of the season.
  •  Hinkle had a game to remember as she netted two goals and added two assists on Sunday for her six points, which was second behind Hopcroft. Hinkle now leads the team in points with eight.
  • Amelia Junge and Ella Fischer scored their first goals of the season on Sunday as well, giving them three points and two points respectively this year.
  • A trio of freshmen recorded some firsts over the weekend as well as Zoe Sims scored her first career goal for UCCS, while Mitsy Ramirez and Jaden Davis both recorded their first career assists in the black and gold.
  • Goalkeepers Mollee Swift and Alexis Walker both had great weekends in the net for UCCS as they tallied three and four saves respectively. They now have 13 and six saves respectively this season, and a combined save percentage of 86 percent.
Award Winners
  • Shanade Hopcroft won the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performance last weekend. This is the first time in Hopcroft's career that she has won this award.
  • Hopcroft led the impressive UCCS offense as she recorded seven points (three goals, one assist) in two games, including both of the team's goals in the win against CSUP.
  • She also recorded 12 shots and eight shots on goal in the two games, both of which led the team.

  • Kendall Stevenson is tied for the fifth most game winning goals in the RMAC with one.
  • Goalkeeper Mollee Swift ranks third in goals against average (.500), third in save percentage (86 percent) and eighth in saves (13).
  • Goalkeeper Alexis Walker ranks fourth in save percentage at 85 percent and 10th in saves with six.
UCCS Under Head Coach Sian Hudson
  • UCCS is now 41-8-4 under coach Hudson and 6-0 to start the season. Their 6-0 start is now tied for the best start to a season in program history.
Upcoming Games
  • Next weekend, #2 UCCS returns home to take on two RMAC opponents.
  • On Friday, October 4, the Mountain Lions will take on Westminster College at 6 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium.
  • On Sunday, October 6, the Mountain Lions will face off against Dixie State University at 1 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
