PREVIEW | #2 UCCS Takes their 4-0 Record into RMAC Play Against CSUP and NMHU

This Week's Games
  • The #2 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will again be on the road this week.
  • On Friday, September 20, UCCS will travel to Pueblo, Colo. to take on Colorado State University – Pueblo (CSUP) at 7 p.m.
  • On Sunday, September 22, the Mountain Lions will be in Santa Fe, N.M. to square off against New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) at 11 a.m.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • The Mountain Lions swept both opponents in their California road trip to improve their record to 4-0 this season.
  • Against Cal Poly Pomona, both teams would finish the first half scoreless with CPP having the edge in shots 8-7.
  • However, UCCS would break through in the 56th minute with what would end up being the game winning goal, scored by another freshman for the Mountain Lions.
  • On Sunday, it took UCCS until the first overtime period to finally get the win in a game where the Mountain Lion defense showed why they own the #11 spot in the nation.
  • Over the course of the two games, UCCS had 27 shots including nine on goal, while allowing only 16 shots and six on goal. That includes not allowing a single shot on goal to Cal State San Bernardino.
  • The two games were both shutouts as well for UCCS, which means the Mountain Lions have allowed one goal in four games with three shutouts so far this season.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • UCCS now sits at the top of the RMAC after Colorado Mesa University, Dixie State University and Colorado School of Mines all dropped a game this past weekend.
  • The Mountain Lions are the only team without a blemish on their record so far this season.

  • Against CSUP, UCCS owns a record of 10-6-1 which includes a four-game win streak coming into this matchup and a 7-3 record in the last 10 matchups. In the most recent matchup between these two teams, UCCS won by a score of 3-1.
  • The game will be played at CSUP, which has boded well for UCCS in the past as they have a 4-2-1 away record against the ThunderWolves.
  • Against NMHU, the Mountain Lions have a 10-6 record which includes a five-game win streak coming into this matchup and a 7-3 record in their last 10 matchups. In the most recent matchup between UCCS and NMHU, the Mountain Lions dominated in an 8-0 win.

  • Goalkeepers Katherine Scott and Karina Vegas have split time in goal for NMHU and have amassed 19 total saves.
Hot Takes
  • UCCS made another huge jump in the national rankings as they now own the #2 spot in the nation.
  • Another freshman scored for UCCS this past weekend as Kaitlin Hinkle scored the deciding goal against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday. That marks Hinkle's first goal in her UCCS career.
  • Sophomore Kendall Stevenson scored the other game winning for UCCS on Sunday off an assist from Tanner Sanders. The goal is Stevenson's first of the year and the assist gives Sanders five points this season, which leads the team.
  • Defense was the theme this weekend as the Mountain Lions allowed only six shots on frame and did not allow a goal in two games.
  • Freshman keeper Mollee Swift recorded six saves in her performance on Friday for her first individual shutout of the season.
  • Not to be outdone, sophomore keeper Alexis Walker also recorded her first individual shutout of season on Sunday.
  • All these underclassmen performing at a high level proves that the UCCS women's soccer program will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Weather
  • The forecast for Pueblo, Colo. on Friday, September 20 shows clear skies and a high of 89 degrees. Winds could be a factor as they are expected to gust up to 15 miles per hour.
  • The forecast for Santa Fe, N.M. on Sunday, September 22 shows mostly sunny skies with a high of 75 degrees. Winds are expected to gust up to 11 miles per hour and there is a minimal chance for any precipitation.
RMAC Leaders
  • UCCS has seven players in the top-10 of various statistical categories.
  • Shanade Hopcroft ranks fourth in the RMAC in shots with 14, while Savannah Mills ranks 10th with six.
  • Tanner Sanders is tied for third in the RMAC in points with five while Tarah Patterson and Mills are tied for eighth with three each.
  • Sanders is also tied for the third most goals in the RMAC with two and Mills and Kendall Stevenson each have one game-winning goal this year, which is tied for fourth in the RMAC.
  • Alexis Walker and Mollee Swift rank first (tied) and second in the RMAC in save percentage as they boast a 100 percent and 90.9 percent respectively. Swift also ranks eighth in the RMAC in saves per game with 3.33.
UCCS Under Coach Sian Hudson
  • UCCS is now 39-8-4 under coach Hudson and 4-0 to start this season, which is two wins away from the best start in program history.
Upcoming Games
  • Next weekend, the Mountain Lions will be traveling to Grand Junction, Colo. for a pair of RMAC matchups.
  • On Friday, September 27, UCCS will take on Western State College at 3 p.m.
  • On Sunday, September 29, UCCS plays Colorado Mesa University at 1:30 p.m.
